RD-1x Firmware on RD-1s???

Since the RD-1x, I have heard, has a firmware upgrade, I wonder if the upgrade would be useful and useable on the RD-1s cameras? If so, will Epson make the upgrade downloadable for the RD-1s does anyone think OR do you think the firmware will only be useable on the RD-1x? And I wonder what the firmware differences are between the 1x and 1s ? Thanks for thoughts from anyone...
 
I hope they'll release an upgrade for the R-D1(s), but I doubt it will be a 100% the same as the firmware for the X.
Main difference being the 32bit FAT control for the high capacity SD cards. I'm pretty sure the hardware of the R-D1 and the R-D1s won't be able to support that.
But who knows what the Labcoats at Epson come up with.
 
You can't update firmware to support SDHC? Other cameras can be upgraded for SDHC support via firmware, or does the RD-1 (s) have physical limitations?
 
That's what I'm thinking. I could be wrong though, I'm no hardware expert on cameras.

Otherwise I do'nt see the point in marketing the R-D1x if there were cheaper R-D1(s) available with the same functionalities and a rotating lcd-screen as an added bonus.
It would be great for all of us with the R-D1(s) though.
 
I, for one, am choosing the RD-1 over the Rd-1x... though price is a huge consideration, even if given a choice at the same price point, I'd rather have the rotating LCD than a larger fixed one. SDHC support is not a big deal (though welcome if it's added in a firmware update). I hope Epson is just letting the public know they're still in contention in anticipation of the RD-2! :) I hope they put in a K20D like sensor... 14mp's with great IQ, low noise in high ISO's and if shooting at ISO 3200+, noise is reminiscent of film grain...

SDHC is not a big deal for me either, I rarely fill up a 2GB card when out shooting, even if I don't use the display to save power. And I usually clear the cards when I download the pictures from them.
But as you say, it would be nice.
 
Yeah, a 2gb card for me is good for a week. I'm not the type who goes out and shoots indisriminately and chooses which one is good after LOL... though if I'll be expecting a day of heavy shooting, that's the time I bring 2-3 extra cards with me... but then, having the capability to use a 4gb card is a welcome luxury :) I don't use higher than 4gb cards though, I once got burned having a 16gb card and it got corrupted... never again...
 
I doubt the R-D1x firmware will be backwards compatible, if for no other reason than its menu system will have been design to run on the larger screen. But the bigger issue will be the new image processing chipset, which will definitely break backwards compatibility. So we'll just have to hope for a new firmware update targeted for the R-D1(s).
 
My guess is that the R-D1X will be the EXACT same camera as the R-D1, with a larger screen only.

All electronics and components will be the same. I'll wager that the firmware update will apply to the older cameras.

There won't be any new "image processing chipset".

What makes you sure that it will have a new image processing chipset?

I don't know why the the source mentions an 'improved' EDiART processor and what kind of improvement that could be. EDiART was already used in the R-D1(s). I don't believe that there will be any improvement regarding image quality.

Ah, if that's the case then I'm mistaken about new image processing chipset, and if there are firmware updates to the image processor, that might become available for earlier cameras.
