RD1 Availability

Ed,

If you and Steve work something out great but otherwise I'd suggest you hold onto that camera and just do the firmware upgrade in June.

Cheers,

Sean

I bought my R-D1 about 6 weeks ago from San Francisco Calumet and paid full freight. I went thru 3 copies before finding the best one. My sample has been great with only a little vertical rangefinder problem. I love the camera, even with its little quirks. I know now that I could have lived with the the other two samples, but at the time I was overly worried.
Remember, the R-D1 is the only game in town if you want the rangefinder experience. I've had more DSLR types express interest in this camera than any other piece of rangefinder hardware if ever owned. I've had the most fun with this camera than anyone can have in a vertical position. Actually, the camera is so much fun to fondle that I have more fun with it in the horizontal position also. Don't let my wife read this.

Ed gets his R-D1S and I get Ed's R-D1. My 21 Elmarit ASPH is drooling with anticipation, and the 12mm should be here from Gandy soon.....

Waiting for FedEx on Tuesday.....

Lucky you. I've been drooling over that Elmarit for awhile. Did you find a used one or what. The best price I found was pushing 3k. How did you do?

Hi Steve,

Congratulations. Finding a good example of the camera is important. Moreover, if the information I'm getting from Epson Europe is correct, you and Ed will have essentially the same camera in June.

As for the Elmarit 21/2.8...I'm testing it now vs. the Zeiss 21 and it is a *wonderful* lens on the R-D1. I'd recommend grabbing the 21D finder as well.

Cheers,

Sean

Got the finder with the lens from another R-D1 user....paid $2,200, am happy. snapped it up a little while ago and planned to wait for the DigM, but it was just burning a hole in my drawer and decided I needed an R-1D to keep in on till the M is out....so actually, the lens cost me *well* over $4,000, with camera attached!!! But it is a good one, Ed went through a few and had Don Goldberg massage this one...

By the way, the guy I bought the lens fromnow is thinking about selling his R-D1, let me know if anyone wants it and I'll tell him (and his Tri-Elmar)....plus the Epson Web store in the US now is back in stock on the R-D1!!! So they haven't given up here, it looks like.....or maybe that is how they are dumping the Asian R-D1 stock so that they can sell the R-D1s there....

R-D1 arrives Tuesday, LC-1 will feel ignored starting then!. and I actually sold all my Canon 1D/1Ds/L lens stuff, I'm going to DO this! I used the Canons for weddings, etc., but Sean proved that isn't necessary....I do high end real sestate photos for brokers, theatre stuff and weddings along with my fine art, and the R-D1 (plus LC-1 and DigM) will do just fine.
