thinking about focal lengths not so much about specific lenses.
currently i am using 15/28/40/50 and it works well.
i sometimes think a 25 might be better than the 28 and am on again/off again thinking about a 21.
i am surprised at how much i prefer the 40 over the 35...considering there is such a slight difference in fov between the two.
what about you?

28/50 have always been my favorite kit with R-D1 & R-D1s. 40 also as single lens. 21s are for the M8.2 now and 15 & 25 are not my cup of tea. FWIW.

I used 15/28/40/50 as well for most of the time I had an R-D1. The CV 28/1.9 I was using was a little too flare prone, but I'd probably have preferred a 25 instead anyway.
The 40 and 50 are close enough that I usually just too one or the other.
Despite the fairly harsh vignetting, I think most of my best R-D1 shots were taken with the 15. Every R-D1 user should have that lens.
Try a 15/25/50 kit.

It "was" 40mm CLE M Rokkor. Best FL for the RD1 or M8 IMO and the only kit I usually carried.

My kit is the 40mm and 21mm. Both cv. I haven't needed to buy any more lenses.
BTW, great shot Andy!

i have travelled with the 35/1.4 sc and the 12/5.6 heliar a few times and it will cover pretty much every situation. very versatile and both lenses are tiny.

CV15 and CV28 skopar mostly, followed by a 50mm Jupiter-8, which is in for a service. The only other is the tiny 35 Perar.

I'm afraid my 'fav' set-up is not by choice (more down to lack of cash). Not that I'm complaining, mind.
I bought the R-D1 with an 35mm CV 1.7 Ultron, and it works really well for me. I shoot most of my RFs with a 50mm attached. So the crop-factor really isn't a big deal.
I have used a converted Industar-69 28mm f/2.8 on it and it works quite well though without RF-coupling (and hence no frame-line alignment) and an accessory VF set to approximately 40mm.
Apart from that I've extensively used a Jupiter-3 on it mainly for low-light and concert photography.

Right now, it's a 25mm ZM, CV 40/1.4 and shortly, a Canon 50/1.8. The 25mm is a bit of a luxury but wow, is that thing sharp. However, it is not easy to frame. now matter how hard I jam my thick buddy holly glasses into the eyepiece, I still underestimate how wide it is on the R-D1.
The 40 is just lovely. I got rid of my 35/1.2...too darn big and not "wow" enough over the 40, which is half the 35 in price and size and just a bit on bokeh...

i'd like to get another cv 40...i love the 40 sonnar but the cv 40 is also very nice on the rd1.
and another 21, i think. 21 and 40 would be a nice combo along with 28/50.

Since I have my M4-P the 28mm is on the M4-P most of the time and the R-D1 is currently bonded to the 15mm..

Hi, when i had my rd1s i ended up using only the vc 40/1.4 nokton lens.
It gave me about 60mm fov, enough for almost any circumstance!
Very compact, fast and able to isolate background.
Tryied using the 28 vc ultron, but wide angle infinite depth of filed and 42mm fov wasn´t very encouraging!
So 40mm would be it!
On the m8 i used the rollei sonnar 40/2.8 but i always missed the f1.4 capability of the nokton 40!
Bye!
PD: waht a nice camera that rd1s! lacks sensor and framlines accuracy for 28mm lenses thou!

I mostly use 40mm and 50mm summicron.
Jupiter 12 for IR (since it accepts 40.5 720 filter).
Elmar 90 if I should need some more "reach" altough i must use an external finder...
Great camera, anyway. Since I have it (september) my D300 is collecting dust!

I use every lens I have - from 15mm to 135mm. I dont go by FL but by the lens I want to use for a particular shoot. Different lenses deliver different look so I go with what works the best.
