rd1 users...what is your favourite kit?

If it's just 1 lens, it's usually a 35mm or my 40mm M-Rokkor (though sometimes a 28 or my 25/3.5 if I know I'll be mostly looking for wider compositions).
If I'm taking 2 lenses, it's usually 28/40 or 28/50.
If I'm taking 3 lenses, 28/35/50 or 25/35/50.

Which of the above lenses do I most often reach for? Don't ask, I have too many.

I never learned how to effectively use the CV 15mm, so I sold it.
I tried the 21/3.4 SA, but that was a PITA to use on the R-D1, so I'm strongly considering an M-mount 21/4 Skopar.
And I'm considering a 40/1.4 Nokton. So far I've successfully resisted the temptation to buy a 40/2.8 Sonnar, but who know how long I'll be able to hold out. (Do I really need three 40mm lenses? OTOH, do I really need ten 50mm lenses? :bang: )

I used the 28mm Ultron almost exclusively, then the 50 Color Skopar now and then. A 21 Color Skopar and a 90 M-Hexanon now on rare occasions.

Ezzie, how is it with the 90?
Nobody else uses a 90mm on the rd1?
Is it worthlessly small in the finder?
How abt focusing a 90 at f2 and close focus, would it be a problem?

I've only used a 90/4 Elmar on mine once. 135mm is a focal length I rarely use on a Leica. Guess I don't really need it on my R-D1 either.
Best to use an accessory VF for composition I think. RichC has a conversion tutorial on the Resource page ....I recall he modified the Frameline mask by drilling two holes in it to help compose with a 90mm lens on it.

I agree with back alley, the 75mm was great for the R-d1. I use a CV 75mm and its so nice for the money, it could easily go for more.

The 25mm with the R-D1 1.53x is ideal for me, not to mention the zeiss 25mm is so nice. I do like shooting with my 35mm canon f/2, i highly recommend that lens. So small too

90mm at f2 is challenging on the rd-1 but very possible if the subjects aren't moving too much. i've used the nikkor 85/2 and gotten some really lovely images, but also a lot of focus errors.

the elmar-c 90/4 is a very great option for the rd-1. i've taken some very satisfying pictures with it. the f4 maximum aperture is much more forgiving than the f2.

this question really goes to style of shooting, and i'm a 50mm-100mm kind of guy. so, 40mm summicron? awesome. really, this might be the best choice of all. 50mm summicron, also wonderful and closer to what i see. 50mm sonnar? works for me. 75mm heliar? really nice lens, especially for the size and price.

I have a CV40 and a CV25. Both awesome and versatile.

Can't wait to try the Zeiss 50 or the CV50 1.1.

And I need want to try a 15mm.

85/2 DoF can be challenging

but when you get it right, it's lovely

the 90/4 elmar-c is a little easier

Started with a 40, stayed w a 40 a long time. Tried emulating some of you with a 28 and 15 to round out the kit, and they're nice, but I keep going out with the 40, and the 40 only for simplicity. Laziness may figure into this, too.

Of course, you can stop down a bit from f/2 to make DoF a bit more forgiving... ;) My problem with the Nikkor 85/2 for moving subjects is that the focus throw is so long, it's too slow to focus.

I've had much better luck using the M-Hex 90/2.8 with its short focus throw -- but even then I stop down to f/5.6 or f/8 to make focus errors less critical.

interesting to go back and re-read this thread...so many folks liking a 40 on the rd1...considering we have framelines for 28/35 and 50 i'm surprised at how many don't care for the 28...
28/50 seems a popular duo but the 40 wins for solo sojourns.

i'm still thinking that 21 and 40 might be best for me but after looking on flickr at rd1/28 shots i want to try that again for a while.

Joe, I think you are right. I just ordered a CV28 on RFF for my RD1.
