Hi all,
My RD1s arrived this morning from Robert White. Good service as usual.
Just one question. I think I remember reading that the battery from the RD1 is shared with another camera, possibly a Nikon? Does anyone know?
I just suddenly realised that if the batteries become unavailable, it's a brick.
Many thanks.

Fuji .. n80 if i remember well.
There are other 3d parties like Hama that work but ... i would recommend to get some additional original Epson batteries .. because of reported (possible) more or less serious problems due to using 3d party batteries.
I stopped using 3d party batteries just to play safe after reading those reports ..

I believe the Fuji NP80 and its clones are usually lower capacity - I'd prefer to find batteries that have the same rating.

Sean Reid posted his concerns about the 3rd party batteries in another thread (scroll down 5th post).
If I recall well, most 3rd party accus do not have 3.7V but 3.6V, and with 1200-1300 mAh have a shorter battery life than the Epson's 1500 mAh. What I am concerned, I just ordered three addional batteries from the german Epson online shop.

You can get the original Epson battery for the R-D1 or R-D1s from here:

7dayshop.com have them available for... £5.99, €8.69, $10.99. They are 3.7v, 1500 mAh, I've ordered two, will post here how well they work.

What I want to find is a charger that will charge 2 batteries at the same time...

I find the 7dayshop.com advert confusing. The equivalent battery appears to be available at £5.99 and £9.99 When you click on those items for more details you get an image of the same battery labeled PDR-BT1 but at different prices
I'm interested to know how the battery turns out, so far I've bought the Epson ones. Since they have a limited shelf life, even when 50% discharged and stored in the cooler it makes sense not to buy too many.
I'm also looking for a dual charger.
Bob.

Congratulations on your RD1S.I got my RD1 from Robert White -they do also stock the batteries.I got 2 a couple of weeks ago after trying the 7 day shop ones and finding they only lasted about half as long as the Epsons own brand which although pricier to me seemed worthwhile.A dual charger would be useful.

I agree the advertising is confusing, which is why I went for the lower price. I'll do a full discharge test to see how they compare with the Epson. Poor basttery life is an issue with this camera. But £29 or whatever the official ones cost strikes me as poor value.

Thanks for all the input. I won't deal with 7dayshop due to what I considered disgraceful (and probably illegal) behaviour from them in the past. Having said that, it's obvious that even if all the authentic Epson batteries disappear, it should still be possible to buy 3rd party ones, which is good enough.
I'll probably stump up for another Epson battery or two at some point. Too busy having fun right now though

I don't have a problem with 7dayshop at all - never had and have just bought a clearance Nikon lens (17-35 f2.8 AFS) reduced from £1149 to £799 and it's perfect. They've just delivered the batteries as well, electrically and mechanically identical from what I can see, so while you're spending £29 or so, I'm getting nearly 5 for the same price. Mark,
Please let us have your opinion of these batteries and frame count in comparison to the Epson ones and if you note any problems when you have had a chance to make a comparison. I have had no problems in camera with the Uniross 3.7V battery, but this is only 1200MAh and so only lasts for 2/3rds to 3/4's of the Epson.
RW have now increased the pre VAT price of the Epson ones to 35 GBP which means 41.13 GBP here, an even bigger difference and very expensive in comparison to alternatives.

Jim,
The cells are rated 3.7v 1500mAh, same as the Epson. I've no reason to believe that they are anything different and the cells inside are probably made by the same company anyway.
They come in plain packaging, no 16-language instruction leaflet telling you not to feed them to your children but they've charged normally and I've just been out with one, all fine.
So, all in all, recommended, the Epson price is just ridiculous. I've just ordered 6more for less than the price, including shipping, of a single Epson one.

Believe me, it's not a question of taste. I've had many successful orders with 7dayshop over the years and have been very happy. I've had a few hiccups that were handled fine. But I had one hiccup that was handled with such direct rudeness that I won't deal with them again. There is precisely one company on the face of the planet I won't deal with, and it's them.
It's not until things go wrong that companies show their true colours.

Fine, not interested in your little toys-out-of-the-pram tantrum with 7dayshop.com. Move on. I've bought 8 batteries from them for the R-D1, they're cheap, they're fine.

OK, I've done 250 exposures since putting in a fully charged battery and the battery meter is still showing over half full. They're fine.

Mark,
Maybe you are having a bad day or maybe you are completely unaware of how heavy handed your messages come across to the reader.
Someone says that they had a bad experience with a seller and you want to say that your experience with the same seller has been very good, all of which is good to know, but you could try and make sure that your responses do not come across like a personal slamming match.
In case my own response is too direct, I just want to suggest that you try and take it easy.
Peter
