Hi all,

I just got a 515/2 nettar, but hasn't run a roll yet. Is there a huge difference in terms of image quality in the prewar tessar lenses of Nettars, Ikontas and Super Ikontas? Thanks.

No. The differences are in the wind/shutter/release mechanisms (Nettar:Ikonta) and in the focusing system (Ikonta:Mess-Ikonta:Super Ikonta)

The 515/2 Nettar and 521/2 Ikonta share the same basic body shell and folding mechanisms.

The Ikonta had the option of Tessar and shutters that offered more shutter speeds than the Klio or Vario shutters common to the Nettar.

If you shoot @ f/8 - f/16 the f/4.5 Novar-Anastigmat and with the results will be very similar to the Tessar. There may be some difference with regards to resolution in the corners, since this is a 6x9 on 120 camera.

Some would disagree - but if you can nail it on the focusing - I rather like a simple Cooke-Triplet, opened up to f/4.5 for portraits from 5 or 6 feet away from the subject. Focusing would be the critical drawback at that distance due to the very limited depth of field - which would be ~ 6 inches.

I forgot to mention that the 521/2 Ikonta had a primitive double exposure prevention that included a red indicator window next to the wind knob to signal that the film has been wound on to the next frame.
