When you see the perfect moment in the viewfinder, how quick are you to capture that decisive moment? (add you camera's shutter lag time to your reaction time)

If you shoot a lot of sports, then you begin to anticipate the action, so you begin to press the shutter release just before a ball is thrown or caught.
Doesn't always work so well when shooting portraits or out for fun.

I agree completely. I shot a lot of sports decades ago, mostly high level youth soccer. It is all about following the flow of the game closely and anticipating key moments. No reaction time is short enough to save you otherwise. Especially when you are focusing a wide open 300mm lens on someone 50 feet away and moving.
