where to start?

a few nights ago there was a new thread about the cv 40 lenses, single and multi coated. after a bit of reading i had convinced myself that i really needed a 40 for the cl, after all it has 40 mm framelines for crying out loud. further, i was convinced i needed a new 40, just cause, and probably the more expensive single coated version of the cv lens.
thank goodness, i came to my senses and realized a good 40 summicron or even the rokkor 40 would do and i set out a searchin' for one.
while searching i realized i should probably look for the 90 elmar or the 90 rokkor for the cl also. sure the canon 100 was ok for the cl but it really should have a 90 as that was what the framelines in the finder called for.
besides the minolta lenses are not all that expensive and they are pretty good, eh?

i now have 3 fifty millimeter lenses, 2 fast canons and the new to me not so fast elmar. the canon 1.5 is a special purpose lens in my eyes as it has those nice soft edges and the 1.2 is like a scientific instrument for use in the near dark, so i gotta keep those. the 2.8 elmar is made for the m3 and is like my 'normal' normal lens.
you all follow, right?
but i really should get myself the zm 50 cause eventually the zi will be my primary shooter and having a set of new and matching lenses makes the most sense for that kit. y'all agree, right? plus new is so nice, smooth focus and crystal clear (pristine) glass😉 right?

so to step back and take a look at my stuff...
a cl for the everyday stuff, small and light and built in meter...with a 28 and a 40 and a 90.
the m3 with that collapsible elmar and the 135 for when i need something very quiet, like for all those church scenes i do 😉 and maybe a 90/4 for in between.
the p cause it's there and available for using all the ltm glass i have.
and the zi because it's new and shiny and i love that 25/2.8

but here's the thing...

i have a canon 35/2.8 that arguably is the favourite of all my lenses that i could easily use on the cl and not need to worry about a 40 - despite those 40mm framelines.
and i don't need a 90! i have the 100 and even the 85/2 and in reality i have not wanted to shoot longer than a 50 in a very long time.
the m3 looks great with the 50/1.2 and feels even better. the elmar was not needed at all. and the 85/100/135 just sit...

i think maybe you get the picture here...lotsa stuff, some here just in case...

and the sad friggin' reality is lately i spend more time trying to decide what camera/lens to haul out than i do using the bloody thing.

so sad for joe you must be saying to yourself right about now, eh?
glad that would never happen to me, you're thinking, eh?

and the worst part is i have no ending for this post, not even a point i think...

joe

The 100/3.5 Canon is a cute one. I have one and use it with a 90mm. Keep using the Canon.

I can't help you a bit with regards to the 40mm lens. At least what you see in the viewfinder is most of what you'll get, which ain't so with the 100mm Canon.

Well Joe, if you desperately need to get rid of some of those extra lenses I have a couple of bodies they'd fit onto... 😉

oscar and i were emailing this morning...we both decided that despite an embarrasment of glass, we could always come up with a reason for having it.

a few years back i sold both of my mamiya 6's and both lenses with the intent of getting one 35mm rf camera and one lens.
back to basics i thought.

that lasted a few months...

After all of that, no news.

Yup, we knew all of that Joe, we have enjoyed watching the growth of your kit.

So, lets get back to the point,

the 40 CLE Rokkor is to die for you know. 😉

Joe,

I think you need to get out more! I mean - you need to plan another visit to NYC to shoot some of the kit!

How's it really going for you? Can you travel now?

Cannot recommend Katz's anymore for you (nada, no way, Jose) - but Serafina's (vegan) is waiting for you.

What say?

We both are on roller coasters. Right now you have been acquiring and honestly, it has been a long time since I bought something.

In a month or so our tracks will change course and we will be doing the opposite.

Joe: If you do manage a trip to NYC, I will make every effort to drive down from Eastman-ville. George will have to give me room and board, but that's just his punishment for being a Yankees fan. 😀

Let's Go Oilers!

Every new piece of gear I buy reduces the opportunity I have to go somewhere interesting to use it. That's the reality check I just hit recently, and it wasn't very comfortable.

Yeah, I'd love to move into a large format field or press camera but if I can't get one by trading in gear I already have, then forget it. I'd rather spend the money to go visit my favorite readhead in Orlando or take a trip somewhere else than on yet another camera or lens.
