Hi,

I don't use the meter in my MP. Is it possible to replace the rear panel with one from on older M, so that the ISO dial doesn't poke out as much? This is purely for making the back of the body more compact.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Marcus.

a possible alternative, based on my experience with an M3, might be to remove the film speed dial, and order a new rear door covering without the cutout? i think the rear cover leather without cutout was an option from at least cameraleather.

good luck

An odd question, but the answer is yes.

Any prior Leica M back cover will work on your MP. Older (non-metered) models made back-door replacement easy with a small knob inside the door - simply pull up on the knob with your fingernail and it would come right off. Later metered models replaced the knob with a screw. Simply grab the screw with a micro screwdriver and pull up to remove the back cover.

The only result of changing out the back door, with say a door from an M3, is your meter will be dead.

I am just guessing that one would want to cover the golden meter contacts (on the body) before replacing the door. Just in case anybody ever puts a battery in.
