Greetings!

I'm currently looking for a user M2.
The cosmetic condition is not that important, it just has to work properly.

I've found some offers, but they reach from 400€ to 800€ (depends on condition).

So what is a good price for a M2?

Would be 570€ for a 1958 M2 button rewind in good working condition (marked as B/C) a fair deal? (Sn. 95xxxx)
(from a shop with a 6month warranty)

Thanks!

Hi,

it depends very much on the condition. You may watch Ebay Germany closed M2 sales for a first price experience.

570€ seems a little bit high for me, but at some shops you can offer a little lesser price and sometimes, they accept it.

But it it is in fully working condition, you have the possibility to watch in the shop (what is of BIG advantage), why don't take it?
We all know, that sellers on the bay, sell more and more junk....

6 month warranty is also good. Most shops dont offer that for used cameras.

If you can watch it, and you like it: I would take it.
Better than paying a little bit less on ebay, playing russian roulette and then maybe getting a bad one........

The shop is not in my city, but a friend (a leica user, too) could watch and buy it (or i buy it online after he had a look).

Ok, so 570€ is not really cheap but still ok with the 6month warranty..

Ebay is not an option for me. Too much trouble in the past.

The warranty is worth a lot because it could save you money if there is a problem, and M2' are older cameras.

It will probably need a CLA (sevrice) at €570. Budget for this and, if it turns out to work perfectly, you're €200 up on the deal.

CLAs are not needed for every old Leica... most work fine for general use. It appears some users expect perfection out of a 60 year old camera so they get them CLA'd to have that silky smooth winding... ;)

Photo Preim in Aachen have three (click 'Gelegenheiten' on the frontpage, look for Leica M on the right). They vary from 399 to 999 EUR.

Or have a look here.

Good luck!

Youxin Ye's cameras sell for $700 to $900 on eBay. I am amazed that often his serviced cameras sell for less than the average nobodies' cameras.

IMO, it is reasonable/logical that they would need a CLA because they are old cameras, and time dries out lubricants that are needed in such mechanical devices. Pocket watches are another example.

Thanks for everyones help!

I got a really good offer: M2 ECL 1961 - Condition B/C - 1 Year Warranty - 399€
Should arrive here tomorrow :)

I know a really good camera mechanic who works for small money. Just in case a CLA is necessary.
So thats no problem.
