I have the VIOOH and I don’t mind the tiny view of the cropping finder at all. Maybe my eyes aren’t shot yet, I find it more than usable in that respect. What I DO mind, is that I don’t find it to be a very accurate finder.
I’ve never been able to figure out if maybe there is simply something wrong with my example, or if there is some way they can become misaligned, however even being completely accurate with the measurement on the parallax adjustment dial, what I get in the viewfinder and what I get in the frame are 2 different things.
note the poor bird got his feet cut off, shot with a 135mm… but framing is equally bad with a 50mm.

I suspect someone clever at Fuji could figure out a way to keep the finder shutter closed and put up correctly sized frames giving X100 and XPros a pretty cool Kontur style finder. If anyone from Fuji uses my idea just leave the reward in the usual place..... ;-)
Brilliant. It doesn't have to be just those either, any RF style camera with the EVF to the side could work. IF the EVF is big enough to project the frame line needed that is. Might even be able to test if the EVF is big enough by loading a JPEG of black with white frame lines on the memory card and playing that back in the EVF.

Shawn, I don’t know why someone hasn’t picked up on this. For a while I was working on a stand alone digital Kontur finder. Even got to a working prototype that indicated I was on the right path. I live on Vancouver island and had hoped to visit Tom in Vancouver for patent and marketing advice. Unfortunately we lost Tom before that could happen. My own health isn’t great so have lost interest.
As the frame lines are digital it should be able to track the view of a zoom lens. When I was working on this I’d hoped to use it on my Nikon DSLR.
One of the pins of the hot shoe sends distance and focal length data that their flash units use. A zooming Kontur would be very useful for photographing birds in flight or fast sports. Anyone who’s waved a long lens around while trying to locate the subject will know what I mean.
Only difficulty I could see was use with wide angle lenses < 35mm. My optics design knowledge is lacking, perhaps something is possible?
