can someone in the UK recommend me a darkroom printer. For those shots/negs that I want the best prints from I thought I might try sending them to someone who knows what they're doing and have them printed in a wet dark room.
Recommendations and website links most welcome.

Robin bell, robinbell.com. One of the best printers in the world. Check his website out, he's printed for some of the biggest names in photography. I've seen a couple of prints that he has made, very inspiring.

Aside from Robin Bell who is a true master there is also Image Fine Art Printers in London http://www.imageblackandwhite.com/ never tried them though. If you're willing to send it across the great divide to Paris there's Nathalie Lopparelli http://www.laboratoire-tirages-argentiques.com/index.html a true mistress.

thanks guys
http://www.laboratoire-tirages-argen...com/index.html looks interesting though I'm not sure what she'd make of my shots compared to her past clientele. I'd love to have a proper print made and compare it to the C type prints from scans I've had.

I know a lot of "amateurs" who know what they are doing in the darkroom.
Ask the people at FADU, a UK-based Film and Darkroom users.
Keep in mind that it's hard to be totally objective when printing someone else's negative. Some of the printer's vision will be transferred also.

Lots of good suggestions, but it would help if you mentioned the type of original which you have and the output that you want. A 10x8" transparency to 12 foot mural requires a different sort of lab to a 12x16" from 35mm black-and-white neg . . .

lots of good suggestions above.
If you are not doing your own film developing then you might try using Ilfords developing service. They print to real black and white paper albeit by machine. If you get scans done at the same time, then you can adjust the results as you like when you get them back and then send digital file to ilford for printing onto silver gelatin paper.

Further to this and thanks to everyone for their recommendations. Has anyone had a B&W FB print done on a Durst lambda. This seems like a good idea though they do seem very expensive. What is the quality like compared to optical wet prints done by hand?

haven't had one done but as far as I'm aware you wouldn't know its been done by laser. The quality is supposed to be superb. But like the old adage says, garbage in, garbage out.
Ilford make special FB paper for printing using lamda and OCE machines so the surface finish might be slightly different if the lab are using it and compared to MGIV FB for example.

Andrew Sanderson is a fine printer - gets a great mood going. Spent a day at a 1-1 workshop with him once. Well worth it! Check out his paper neg prints too. http://www.thewebdarkroom.com/

They are not local, but they do regularly work for clients all over.

I am fortunate to have them in my backyard. They only process black and white film and make prints. Everything is done by hand.
