Recommend Wide angle lens for Nikon N60

I have a Nikon N60 with a quantaray 28-80 lens. I would like to get a wide angle lens for the camera but not to much expense. My budget would not be more than 300.00 US.
I will be using the camera for taking pictures of my landscaping and wood deck work. I feel the 28mm end is not wide enough.

scotty, I have found that a 28 for most work is pretty wide, my choice for most work is 35. If you want wider in Nikon you have to to 20mm which is very wide. 24 is probably way to close to 28 for you. Good luck in your choice.

Scotty - the N60 is an SLR, not a rangefinder - they are slightly different kinds of cameras. RFF is mainly for rangefinders but there is a subforum - lovingly named Evil SLRs - where your question might find better answers.

That said, are you looking for a prime lens? How wide?

The Nikon 24mm f2.8 af or afd is an excellent lens as is the 20mm f2.8 af or afd. You should be able find good used samples of either for under $300.

Let me second Kius vote for the 24/2.8. I grew up on one as part of my triad of 24/85/200 and it worked great. It is a great lens, sharp and bright. Should be easy to find. I am using it as my wide angle lens for my D300 (some day soon I hope). My kit will be 24/58/105/180. I suspect that the 24 and 58 will be used most of the time.

While I might be tempted to look at a 20, I've never really liked the 20/21 focal lenght. For me it was either too wide or not wide enough, never just right. I had a 21/35/90 kit on my Leica Ms for years, the 21 almost never came out. Now I have a 15mm that I love so much that I am thinking about trading in my LTM version on an F mount. Problem is for me that the D300 does not have a real mirror lockup. But it will work on my Nikkormat and with an adapter on the Bessa R I have for my son. If Pres K would ever reissue his F to S (Nikon SLR to Rangefinder) adapter again I would jump on it. I find the 15 to be great. Really wide for those shots that need it.

If you like zooms, the Nikkor 18-35mm f3.5-4.5 is supposed to be great and is current. Personally, I like primes and use a Nikkor AIS 24/2.8. It's a great little lens, and plenty wide enough for me.

Kiu is right, some of the RFF folks can get a bit......focused shall we say on their way of taking pictures. It also should be noted that there are a LOT more open minded folks here than you might think. Lots of people using Digital and not just with M8s and such.

The 20mm afd is nice and sharp. Small too, so it should balance well on a light camera. It's got a touch of barrel distortion though.

I had a Tokina ATX 20-35 for my N90s. Loved that lens. Currently I'm shooting a Nikon 24-50 on my FM, FE, F3 even though it's an AF lens. Either of these lens can be found for around $100, plus or minus. They are both much better quality than the Quantaray, this from someone who actually worked at Ritz Camera at one time and sold a lot of Quantarays.

I don't think any of the recommended lenses are for digital format.
