Hey all,

Been looking for something a little less awkward to mount on my R2M that I just picked up a few months ago. I got it new with a used Nokton 35 1.4 MC with the hood, which is awkward as hell when I put it in my backpack (I suppose i could just take it off, though...). Unfortunately, one of my buddies kicked the lens off the table while we were drinking one night (ultimately my fault, I shouldn't've brought it out), and ever since, the focus ring has been a little sloppier than it's initial delicious smoothness...

Anyways, since buying new kit is always a much better decision than saving money and being economical decisions, I've been researching collapsible lenses. I come from a Nikon SLR/dSLR background, so "tiny and portable while retaining good quality images" is a novel concept to me.

Looking for something a little longer, maybe for light candid-street portrait stuff and general walkaround (so I think the 90mm is out), and 50-75 would be just about right.

I'm willing to compromise a bit, as my priorities are (mostly in this order):
  • lowish price (hopefully nothing more than $300-500ish, preferably less)
  • compact size - the R2M isn't really truly pocketable, but something I can toss in one of the little pockets in my backpack so I can always carry my camera with me
  • speed - 2.0 or 2.8 would be ideal, but I might settle for 3.5 if there are no other options. Obviously this affects overall size/bulkiness and cost.
Image quality and character are nice, but I'm not super picky as long as the bokeh isn't hyper-distracting squiggles or weird shapes. I pretty much exclusively shoot B&W, if that makes much difference to anyone's suggestions. I'm also living in Seoul, so that might affect availability, as well, unfortunately.

Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated, and sample pictures for comparison would be wonderful.

Thanks,

~Spicy

The obvious answer is Heliar 50/2 that was originally sold with R2M. It is small, collapsible (not that much, but still), and qualifies as a top league 50mm.
