Setting up to develop your own B&W film is very easy, inexpensive and does not need a dark room of any kind (just a changing bag). Unless you do it yourself and have the control to make a difference in your development regime when you want I'd just use XP2 or the like....

Since you're in CA A&I Labs in LA would be convenient for you. Considering the volume they do they provide excellent service at a reasonable price.
