Flyfisher tom helped me make my mind up on which 28mm I wanted. He offered an unused 28mm Ultron at a price I had to grab. Thanks again Tom! The bad part is my wife won't give it to me untill my birthday on the 6th ;<(. Now that i know that I have one I need a finder. She's also giving me a Zeiss ZI which has 28mm a 28mm frame and I have an old M6 .72x with the 28mm frame. My 2 MP's are .85x so I need a finder. Whch of the CV 28mm finders do you like best. I don't wear glasses and have no problem seeing the 28 frame on the M6 or the 35 frames on the .85 MP's. I look at the new metal BL finder and feel it's a little on the large side but have never seen one in person. I also look at the combo metal mini finder and don't know about the optics and eye relief. The size is attractive. I have a 15 CV and have a 25 CV for my Nikon S3 and like those finders very well. I would even consider the older plastic one that looks like the 25 finder if i could find one. How do the three compare? I had a Leitz and sold it and imagine the Zeiss is great but the cost to performance ratio is a little out of line and I don't remember being particularly impressed with the Leitz finder. Anyone have one for sale?

Definitely the CV metal 28mm finder, while larger than the mini-finder I found it much easier to use as the larger CV metal finder appears more "spacious" when you look through it. That's to say the bright lines are easier to view and have more space around them which makes composing more enjoyable.

Keep in mind I don't own a mini-finder (tried it out in a shop) but have the 28mm and use several of the other Voigtlander finders (21mm & 25mm).

Might also be worth considering the CV made Zeiss 25/28mm finder.... expensive, but perhaps you could consider it as a 2 for 1! 🙂 <If you don't already have the 25mm lens then I think the CV 28mm metal finder is the way to go....if you have the 25 then maybe the combined Zeiss finder.>

Cool significant other...very lucky!!! 🙂

PS. If you go to this Cameraquest page you will see that the metal CV 28mm finder is actually smaller in some dimensions than the "regular" plastic finders.

I cannot compare but I have the "old" CV plastic finder and I like it very much. But then I'm a fan of the CV finders, they are so much better than the Leica equivalents.

I really like the 25 and 15 CV finders and agree that they are much better than the Leica finders. In the 60's and 70's I had the all metal 21 and 35 Leitz finders and liked the construction but the optics of the 21 reall were bad. My 21 plastic Leica finder is no better optically and the construction is terrible. I felt the same about the plastic 28 Leica finder that I had. The Zeiss would have to be spectacular vs the CV to warrent the cost and i don't think there is much difference.

I will probably order the 28 metal tomorrow.

Thanks for the info!!!

CV28 finder on M2

CV28 finder on M2

In case you wanted to see what the full size CV 28 looks like on an M-

The 28 is all metal, incluidng the foot, v bright, easy to use, with a little barrel distortion. Finish is excellent; on my example the foot fit s the M2 accessory shoe nicely but seems a little tight on my IIIc (a touch of silicone spray helps..caution)

The older Leitz 2.8 cm finder (SLOOZ) is difficult to find, expensive, bigger, nicely made, less bright than the CV.

I've got a Canon 28mm finder -- it looks and works great. Good ones seem to command about $100 or so on the rare occasions one can find them seperate from the 28mm lens

Voigtlander finder

Voigtlander finder

I'll chime in for the Voigtlander. I use the 28mm metal finder on my M6TTL. It's a great finder. Bright like the other vlander finders and better constructed. I can also see the bright lines (and a little more) while wearing glasses.

The bright lines were crooked on the first sample that I received from Stephen. I sent it back. It's unclear to me if he fixed it or sent me a new one.

Either way, it's great!
