Red Oktober is upon us!

I got my 'fully functioning, excellent condition' Fed 2 sooner than I thought. The shutter is slooooooooooooow. The rear curtain doesn't catch up until I leave go of the shutter release at all speeds apart from 1/500th. I've noticed there is a thread on here about adjusting the shutter but it this not just a lubrication issue? I thinking about trying to fix it myself before sending it back.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I thought this would be a good place for an answer 🙂

Could be a lube issue. I'm beginning to think that "in working order" means there are no missing pieces.

Well, I tried to be a hero and service it myself :bang:

I ended up snapping the pin in the centre of the shutter selector. I guess the camera is dead now unless people have other solutions that don't cost more than a working replacement? 😱

I was confused because IMHO, this pin looks indestructible, but of course it's just my visual impression. 🙂

I must have just over tightened it and it just came off in my hand, with the rest of it still screwed in place and out of reach. I guess a man must know his limitations.

Ouch! Maybe you can find a non-working one for parts. Or maybe it would be easier to fix than the one you have now.

Groucho, according to a pdf fed 2 instruction manual I downloaded from butkus, when you take the back off, asnd look underneath the camera, there are four screws which are used to when altering the speed of the curtains:

"FED-2 Instruction manual
– 6 –
You’ll need to do the following: (look at the picture) open the bottom, you’ll see 4 bolts.
You can regulate the first curtain (it opens the shutter) with the bolts 1 and 2. The bolts 3 and 4 are for the second curtain (it closes the shutter). The bolt 1 and 3 are for fixing, the bolt 2 and 4 are for regulation of the curtains. Take off the lens, put the shutter speed in position “B”, cock a lever and press a shutter button. Look at which of the curtains moves slowly.
For example, the second curtain (it closes the shutter) moves slowly. In that case you need to unscrew the bolt 3, and turn around one or twice the bolt 4 (anticlockwise).
For example two, the second curtain (it closes the shutter) moves quickly. In that case you need to unscrew the bolt 3, and turn the bolt 4 (clockwise) once or twice. This method is used for all Leica type cameras, Zorki and FED"

'Bolts' 1 and 3 are the ones with the flanges, 'bolt' 1 is nearest the front of the camera.

I don't know about the front curtain.

Checking out my Jupiter-8 2/50, and Jupiter-12 2.8/35 lenses on some Kodak Ektar 100 while driving around Giles, Craig, and Roanoke counties.

The shutter on the Zorki-6 camera still needs some adjustment, as it is running fast, and uneven. Not good for the Ektar film, which has only a little bit of latitude. Made for some great saturated images though.
