When I put on a cycling jersey, there are nothing but unsightly bulges. Lycra does not lie.Pah. Eschew that beastly oversized, overweight Leica III ... Switch to a Minox 8x11 camera! A Minox IIIS in leather case sans measuring chain is 88g, a Minox EC in leather case is 52g, a Minox EC with flash and battery in combo case is 148g. And any of those kits can fit in your bicycling jersey pocket without even making an unsightly bulge... 😇

And get rid of those valve caps! Do you know how many grams of rotating weight those are?!!!In cycling a significant advantage in weight comes from improving diet. Bone crushing carbon fiber narrow rimmed skinny tired torture racks are not on my radar with a flexing steel frame, long wheelbase and 700 x 28 Vittoria Randonneurs at each end. I reckon If a IIIf with 50 Elmar is not light enough, reduce meal portion size and join a gym.

Yeah, no one has talked about all that rotating weight on the Barnacks. And get rid of those valve caps! Do you know how many grams of rotating weight those are?!!!
Someone else said it in a previous post, but if you're concerned about extra weight on your bike, look in the mirror. (I do not pass the "sausage test," myself.) Folks like Coppi and Bottecchia managed OK with "inferior" equipment.

Voigtlander make a 40mm 2.8 Heliar lens in LTM that I think would be a natural pairing with a Barnack. Lens weight is 110 grams. It's tiny, moderately fast and sharp as a tack from wide open.

Yes, but did you try the Voigtländer 40mm finder?Voigtlander make a 40mm 2.8 Heliar lens in LTM that I think would be a natural pairing with a Barnack. Lens weight is 110 grams. It's tiny, moderately fast and sharp as a tack from wide open.

Use the lines of the shoe as the left and right sides of your "finder". I've done that for years with a 35 on LTM or Contax/Kiev cameras without 35mm frame lines. It would be "close enough" for a 40 once you get used to it. Up and down as well. Nothing about framing with an RF is precise anyway - you need that, time for an SLR.Yes, but did you try the Voigtländer 40mm finder?

Very true that the Voigtlander 40mm finder is large and doesn't suit the style of a Barnack. If an accessory finder is a must; I'd probably mount a small 35mm or 50mm finder (plenty to choose from) and mentally crop in or out as required.

Nice! Love the fish in the background... has a touch of Hemingway about it. The 40mm Heliar seems to be very good at subject separation with nice fall off, front and rear.

The Jupiter 8 is 130 grams. A KMZ one is the best, QC is ragged so be careful. I have a '57 which is as good as any lens I have and I have a couple of good ones. J8's run about US$100. Here's a shot on an M9
