I tried the trick of putting 99 in my shopping cart to see how many in stock. It accepted the amount.

So there must be more than 100 of them.

Better hurry, these things disappear within hours.

PS: This coupon code should be good until Jan 14. 7ZJASTG

Just bought one. Let's hope it is a good version.

Coupon FS8F good until 1-31. (10%)

Hate this forum! Already made me buy a Canon 50/1.2, now the RD1!:D

I made a mistake. They don't have 100 in stock. Just checked again, only SIX left. If I didn't already have three I'd get another, but that would put me in the lunatic fringe.

PS: If you place an order with a credit card, even if it appears that your order went through, I suggest calling the Epson store, and insisting that they verify your order and walk through it while you hold on the phone.

From experience, I know that Epson has a system that kicks off your order if your phone number is not properly "keyed" to you credit card. YOU may think your phone number is OK, and other stores have no problems, but Epson WILL reject your order with a frustrating email hours later, and the refurbs will be gone.

To avoid disappointment and aggravation, VERIFY YOUR ORDER on the phone and insist that your order not be cancelled no matter what.

You have been warned.

PPS: 8:30am EST. 3 left.

Plasmat,
A few hours ago, I went to the clearance rd1 page and did as you did, I "ordered" an rd1 and put the quantity at 99. The site only allowed me 6, same as you reported in post #6. I wonder if you cleared out your shopping cart (reset the quantity to zero), it might free up some units.
Just a thought.

" I could never get to the shopping cart. I thought I knew the procedure and have been waiting for 3 days. What did I need to do?"
Rex, you need one of us east coast guy to check the epson site when we get up, and then give you a wake-up phone call.

Take care,
Michael

Well, I thought you were an rd1'er. Then again, 10% off a five grand camera would be a nice treat!

It is cleared automatically after a set amount of time - on that site it is 30 minutes I believe.

Mine shipped already. Wasn't going to buy one, but then I checked by chance this morning, found a 10% coupon and voila!

It would be nice to have a spare. I'll wait until closer to the end of the one year warranty period before I order another. I LOVE MINE BTW.

Got up about 06:00 EST and checked. Epson had refurbished R-D1s in stock. Read the newspaper and came back about an hour later and ordered one. Showered and ate breakfast. Went back, and they were out of stock. There was about a two hour window. The camera will be here on Monday, but unfortunately I'm going to have to wait one to two weeks before B&H can ship an Ultron 35mm f/1.7 asph to go with the camera. You've got to be quick.

I only updated the cart, never held the cameras. I don't believe I blocked anybody.

Anyway, the early bird gets the worm. Every time they've been in stock the quantity has been less than 30 or so and they sell out in hours. You can't dilly dally or hesitate if you want one. If you see them in stock, order instantly.

A procrastinator will never snag a refurb.

What about CameraQuest? Have you tried them for the lens? Also, keh has a 40mm M-rokkor. I bought one a week ago, and I really dig it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way to navigate around CameraQuest. They don't even have a search capability. Someone needs to do some serious work on their web. Trouble with the 40mm M-rokkor is that on the R-D1 it ends up as roughly a 61mm lens. That's not wide enough. 35mm gets you pretty close to a standard 50mm.

40's pretty good on the RD1

40's pretty good on the RD1

and possibly matches the RD1 framelines better than the 35 at some distances. The CV35/1.7 is noticeably wider with ~8 degrees or so, but not so noticeable as say either 35/40 to 50 to me. I tried the 35/1.7 Ultron, and the 40/2's and 50s, and for me, they were pretty darned close, and the ~.5 faster stop on the Ultron wasn't needed by me, and it's easily double the size over the Rokkor. I've got a spare Rokkor for sale in the classifieds if you're interested.

They had them a month or so ago here at Hunt's Photo and Video in Melrose, MA (Boston suburb) for 10% off during their annual photo show. Sorry didn't know about this forum at that time, otherwise I would have told you. But I like the R-D1 more in looks. It looks more retro and old. Once you swivel around the LCD, there is no real indication that it's digital (except the silkscreening).
