Hi.
How would you try to remove a screw stub of about 0.5mm wide from its hole?
I thought open an hole in it but dont know exacly how to do it. Any experience in this kind of work out there?? 🙂

This is a broken screw that holds the camera's winding lever, it was tighten too much and broke inside. I have a replacment screw but i need to get out the old one 🙂.

Kevin's advice is good, but sometimes with a small part it's very difficult to get it clamped into the drill press. Also, if the screw is only 0.5mm in diameter, you're going to need a VERY small drill -- in my experience, these tend to be a bit flexible and will "walk" on you a bit even in a drill press.

An alternative might be to try to grind out the stub using a very small spherical burr on a hand-held tool such as a Dremel. Work very slowly and wear eye protection.[/i]

Whether you grind or drill, it'll be a near-miracle if you can remove the stub without damaging the threads; in that case, you'll need to re-tap the hole for a larger screw.

I had a small screw stripped on my J-12. I needed to remove it to clean and relube it. I took it to a local watch repair person. He did an excellent job. It only cost me $10 CND.

Yes, i beleive that drilling will be near miracle to acheive by me 🙂. Also, its half way down the hole.... I'll post pictures of the problem tonight.

Jon, where exacly is you optician guy that does this kind of work for free? 🙂

Thought about that... the problem is that i dont know any watch repair person here where i live 🙂
