There is a lot of time and passion expended in this forum discussing lens characteristics.
I for one find this interesting but wonder how much of the subsequent processing either in camera or for film users like myself ,during the scanning process destroys a lenses individuality.
If I use my single coated Nockton and set the scanner to high contrast I may as well have used a higher contrast lens.
Should I therefore have set it to Auto or linear.
Which of the subsequent process stages is the most damaging in this regard and how do people mitigate any detrimental effects.

Shoot.
I suppose adjustments to contrast during scanning do the most damage…
But darkroom printing can be equally damaging to a characteristic — if you have a wonderfully sharp lens but a not-so-sharp enlarger lens…
Some lenses are said to have warmer colours. That can be destroyed anytime during the process.
Then there are, of course, signatures that are hard to hide — softness, flare, edge distortion, character of bokeh…
So I guess the my final answer is: anytime you make a duplicate from the original, there's a chance that you'll change something.
