I haven't shot a Leica since my father's IIIg (sadly, long gone), and I'm interested in acquiring a Leica M (Typ 262). Living a somewhat inconvenient distance from a Leica dealer, I've never seen/held/looked through one.

So, I'm thinking of renting one, and looking for any recommendations or suggestions for reliable rental companies. For what it's worth, I live in southeastern Connecticut.

Also, I have a few Zeiss and CV M-mount lenses, and so I don't plan to rent a Leica lens. Would this be a bad idea?

Finally, I have several fast SD cards, so I think I'm set there.

Any help much appreciated!

Lensrentals.com's office is about 2 miles from my house. I rented an M262 for a few days from them, last year. They were fantastic to deal with. They get my recommendation.

$358.00 /7 Day Rental of Leica M10.
$392.00 / 7 Day Rental of Leica Monochrom

This is not cheap, but in some cases it could be a good way to try out such cameras on a photography filled week.

Another vote for lensrentals! Great folks there. But, if you’re close enough to Manhattan, Adorama rental house has great gear and is generally cheaper, mainly because of the lack of shipping costs. They also have great holiday sales!

I also find that their equipment is in far better shape then lensrentals, since they don’t do mail order, their stuff goes through less hands. I’ve rented Leica, Nikon and Sony gear from them many times. Never had a problem. Can’t say the same about lensrentals, but lensrentals have never done me wrong with crediting me for spotty equipment. Can’t go wrong either way.

Having a loaner M240 since 6 months makes me realize that I would paid a large sum of money to rent such a camera for so long!
