I'm not sure how widely this is known amongst Hexar AF users, but Bellamy from Japan Camera Hunter provides a relay service to have them repaired in Japan. I wish I had known this before I sent my Hexar for a repair in Canada that left the camera dead, but Bellamy was able to have it fixed and it works good as new now!

It's not the cheapest service ever, especially considering shipping costs to Japan, but it's still less than buying a new one which also carries the risks of a used camera. They appear to have a good parts supply as well, as they were able to replace my scratched frameline mask with a new one.

The Hexar AF is my favourite camera, and knowing that I can have it properly serviced if it develops problems has given me a lot more faith in its long-term reliability. Thanks Bellamy!

Good advice. I did the same thing (although through Japan Exposures) a couple of years ago to permanently fix the erratic shutter button issue—I'd tried the DIY fix a couple of times but the problem always returned—and the camera has been fantastic ever since. They did some AF adjustments and cleanup while they were at it.
