The rubber lens grip ring fell off my 35mm f2.8 Minolta MD lens. Anybody know what I can use to replace it with? I tried reglueing; it's too stretched. I thought Grip Tac, but they do not sell it in sheets.

What about cutting it down and gluing it back into place? I have the same problem with an old Vivitar Series-1 200/3.

Something I've also thought of was taking it off and using hockey tape on it in stead. Perhaps using electrical tape to build up a base and then top with black hockey tape.

Let me know how you make out, good luck.

Yeah, I thought that maybe that's all I could find at the hardware store was hockey or skateboard tape. Maybe a sporting goods store would have something. I heard that you can get a grip-tac like material for golf clubs.

I've found that good electrical tape does not loose it's glue over time, even with heat. There must be a small sporting goods store that would have good tape. Check on line for golf club handle rap stuff. I'm sure that there are dozens of options.

Silly approach, have you asked Minolta (Sony) if they have anything?

I figure asking Sony would be pretty hopeless. Lens was made in the 1980's. Oh, on the trim-and-re-glue-the-old-material option, it was so knarly I threw it out already.

What about buying a used one on EvilBay (or a Minolta group site) with trashed optics that you could harvest the part from?

You might reach out to Brian Sweeney here on the list. He is a extraordinary tinkerer who might know something.

They also make a rubbery grip tape for racquetball rackets. Or a get a firmer grip with bicycle handlebar tape.
