Just received an externally fine Zorki 1 with a nice looking I-22, but on inspection of the shutter the curtains are completely shot. The short curtain appears to have warped to its roller during storage and bulges alarmingly, and the backing on both has become brittle and flaked off in a way that fabric paint seems unlikely to help. Naturally, the speeds are completely off too. So, I've got to put new shutters in.

Jay's site has a good tutorial on the process, but I need to acquire new curtains, either pre-made or made by me from materials. Some Russian sellers on eBay have premade Zorki curtains, and micro-tools and Aki-Asahi have the necessary materials, but I was wondering if there are any other sources I should be aware of, especially for premade curtains. Ideally, a domestic (US) or EU source would be preferred as I'm not really in the mood to deal with the Russian post office right now. Let me know of any alternatives I may have missed.

HI, and welcome to the forum.

I have the same problem with my Zorki 1.
Also thought that fabric paint will solve the problem but unfortunately it didn´t. Then I have to replace both curtains after seeing lots of nice and tiny holes in it (and some black spots in the negs). I think, but I´m not yet sure if the curtains from a Zenith 11 will do the trick, it is they evolve from the same Leica II shutter so probably you/I can replace Zorki curtains with those from the Zenith.
As far as I know, after having measured them, they are of same size and shutter design is almost the same just for a few little differences arising from the different cameras they come from.

Hope it helps

Cheers
Ernesto

Monocyte, PM me your mailing address and I'll send you a set of shutter curtains (complete with ribbons and laths). Pre-sewn and pre-cut. You only need to trim them to the size of your Zorki's original curtains.

Ernesto, xayraa, thanks for the suggestions and the welcome. Zorkikat, thank you for the kind offer, I will PM you shortly.

A small update for any future people seeking Zorki parts- before ZorkiKat offered to help me out, I put in an e-mail to Fedka. Unfortunately, they won't sell you new curtains unless you are getting a CLA.
