How hard/feasible is it to replace a shutter in a Canon IID as a DIY job? I obtained one with some leaks in the shutter for about $60 and would rather not spend a fortune to have it CLAed. Especially since everything else seems to be working fine. I know I could patch the shutter, but it looks like it's already been patched in a couple places once so patching over a patch seems like a bad idea.

It can be done as a DIY, but not as a first ever, it is harder to do than you think.
a fine camera like a Canon IID deserves professional attention .

These Canons are fine cameras and should never be hacked on by someone without the knowledge.

It requires proper alignment and spacing of both curtains during the installation process then proper tensioning of the shutter curtain spindles. To much tension will damage the springs and too little tension will give improper shutter speeds.

Send it to DAG...

I've re-installed the curtains on a Leica IIIa, and got it right in a few tries. Completely replacing the curtains on a Canon IIF proved harder, I have it working, but the shutter speeds are off. Positioning is really critical, there's no provision for fine tuning like there is on a Leica IIIc or later. The Canon also demands particularly thin shutter curtain material.
