Replacing foam with rope

Hi thinkerers!

Is it generally a good ideea to replace the foam lightseals with rope? I mean the type of lightseal used by german manufacturers until the sixties.
If yes, what would be the best material, how to coulour it black and what other parameters (diametre for example) to take in consideration?

Why are you wanting to use rope? Is it for authenticity? IMHO the foam kits you can buy make the seal replacement so easy. If you want to exclude light and do a clean job then look no further. I got my kit from Interslice, regards john

I use rope and/or velvet ribbon because I have it in my camera repair box... only have one thickness of foam... they all work.
