Hey guys, about to receive Canon Demi (first one) with destroyed light seals. What would you recommend as a replacement material and a method? As I understand it'll need to be properly cut and measured...

I've taken apart and fixed a few cameras, but never light seals, yet.

Thank you!

Different self-adhesive foam materials can be had off eBay. I bought some years ago and don't remember what exactly it is. It works and cutting it doesn't require excessive precision in general, I wouldn't know if the Demi has specific requirements in that regard though. I'd be interested to hear what material is most durable, too, does anyone have data on that?

Is there anything that could be bought at a school-supply type of a store anyone had good experience with?

I've read about the material from a mouse pad being used. But it isn't self adhesive and needs to be cut in all three dimensions as it's too thick I think.
I've also read about black wool(!) yarn being used in movie cameras. Might work in still cameras, but you'd need the right quality that no little hairs come off of.

Google Jon Goodman (eBay ID, interslice) who has an enthusiastic following. I have used a kit and everything you read about his service is true.
