I see that the stronger plastic square-tipped replacement rewind forks for the Nikon F100 are available on eBay. Before I pop for one, has anyone ever replaced theirs on their own?

What is involved? Any tools required other than tiny screwdrivers?

Just curious, as I don't own an F100, but didn't Nikon provide a metal replacement fork, and would it be possible to get one now?

They made a stronger plastic fork with square tips, which are still available to purchase. They replaced the old triangular plastic forks for free when the camera was current. I do not think they ever made a metal fork for the F100, at least not as a stock item.

I know the history, I'd just like to hear from somebody who has made the switch themselves or find out that it is better left to a technician?

Over at Nikonians (ugh) I found a reference to the switch involving removing the top plate and covering... and generally being an expensive PITA.

I guess a $40 N80 back-up is the best protection ;-) Or an F5.
