It doesn't work like that with Marktplaats. The seller will sell it to the bidder when he feels the bid is high enough. He may retract it if he feels the bids are not serious or don't reach the price he has in mind.

That's true, but it's my experience that bidding on Marktplaats hasn't much effect anyhow. Marktplaats isn't a real auction site, it's more like a... ehh... market place 😉, like an Egyptian bazar where you have to bargain for the goods you want. As there is no real time limit to the bidding process, in many cases sellers simply wait for weeks when they have the idea that their item is worth more than it is to the bidders.
When I see something interesting on Marktplaats, I usually contact the seller and negotiate a price for the item on offer without showing the bids on Marktplaats. The advantage is that I can ask for more/better photos and specific details of the item and I get an idea of the person I deal with.
