Ah, there are so many things that I repurpose for photo use.

Wally World or other retailers including grocery stores have inexpensive tote sacks. I use them for covers for my shoulder bags while stored overnight or longer and for transport in the car as they really cut down the dust and protect expensive camera bags.

Reversing the repurposing? Not so much... I find that using photo items for other things come under the McGiver (sp?) category do if I need a pill bottle.. The film cannisters work. If I need a doorstop, any old digital brick will work in a pinch! Just joking...

i use a film plastic canister to ration the dry food of our cat... 😀

We use postage stamps in one hundred stamp rolls. I knew we once had a metal stamp dispenser, but I could not find it. So I took a plastic 35mm film canister, cut a slit from top to bottom, put a roll of stamps inside, and pulled the end out through the slit. Instant stamp dispenser. If the stamps hang on the edges of the slit, simply round off the slit a bit. Of course once I had done this I found tie metal stamp dispenser--happens every time in these situations. Anyway, I'm still using the plastic dispenser because it's smaller and lighter. Of course, if you're too lazy to cut a slit and have snap open 35mm film can, just put the stamps inside that and pull them out through the felt lined light trap. That way you don't scratch the stamps!! 😀 😀

As most folks have heard, out here in California, we are in a drought...so to do my part I'm limiting my showers to 6 minutes...

I would have been in big trouble had I taken a 6 minute shower while in the Navy. We had to do it in 3 minutes. You turn on the water, get wet then turn off the water until you were ready to rinse off..

Here is Texas we jump into a swimming pool, puddle, stream, creek, river, or lake when bathtime comes around.

I set the timer to 6 minutes but found I've got it down to 5 minutes...
No rivers, creeks or streams where we live...well, none with enough water flowing...would love to have one...
I forgot that I too use the plastic 35mm film cans for many things...spare change, gum, small parts holder...

I use an old safelight (the type that's just an enclosed E26 with an extension cord) that's missing it's filter as a work light.

Film canisters for keeping small parts when I'm disassembling something (and of course, storing your marijuana- it's legal here in Colorado so I'm allowed to admit to that 😉 )

I keep broken cameras around for parts- the screws especially come in handy. The second 4x5 camera I built used a focal plane shutter scavenged from a Speed Graphic!

Try Navy Shower. Wet down. Turn off water. Soap down. Turn water back on. When I served, steps 1 & 3 a person could use water 30 seconds. That's it. Longer time times, if caught, stand watch in the boiler room! (the hole!)
