Request for a panoramic camera forum

There have been many threads here on panoramic rangefinders: Xpan, Horizon, etc. Not to mention what one can do with digital stitching. And I just bought a Noblex. Can we add a Panoramic Forum to RFF?

The Xpan is the only one of these that's actually a rangefinder camera, isn't it?
 
No, they are all rangefinders, but some are fixed focus rangefinders because of the depth of field. The "low-end" Noblexes are fixed focus but the "high-end" ones are fousable. ("" used because at their nosebleed prices nothing is really low-end.)

Gee, I missed that. How about adding "Noblex" to it. Well, there is also the Russian Horizon pano that is fixed focus, too, and who knows, more may come along in the future.

not to pick nits but those aren't rangefinders - just having a viewfinder doesn't make it an RF. Scale focus - fixed focus, and groundglass (direct view).

But I do agree that expanding the xpan forum to a more general panoramic forum makes sense, even if it is slightly, technically, off topic.
 
Technically you are correct, but it doesn't seem to be that far off topic since they are functionally quite similar. Most panoramic cameras are probably zone focused anyway, regardless of their inherent capabilities. And certainly landscapes are set to infinity without focusing also.

I have been shooting panoramics for over 10 years and have never seen a swing lens camera that can be focused. Not a Horison, Horisont, Noblex, Widelux or Industar FT2.
The Horseman, Fuji and Linhof panoramics are not rangefinders. They have viewfinders for composition not focusing. The only rangefinder panoramic camera is the Xpan / TX.

I have an FT2 and a Linhof 617.

While it would be nice to have a Panoramic section all the sections are camera specific. We do not have a street or portrait section do we?

The Bessa L isn't a rangefinder either and still allowed here on RFF. So are those early Leicas, Russian rf-less cameras, etc. So why not rf-less panoramic cameras like the Noblex and the Horizont?

I don't recall that ANY Noblex is focusable.
And thet are not rangefinders either.

But I think too that panoramic cameras deserve a place here on RFF. The BEssa L has a place, rf-less Leicas do, so why not the vf-only panoramics.

so how do all those point and shoots qualify? I think we need a pano forum

"MF Rangefinders" is not a camera specific category. We could rename "Xpan" to be "Panoramic rangefinders"; that would be parallel to "MF Rangefinders".

Ira, If the Xpan section is renamed Panoramic Rangefinders it would still be for Xpan / TX only, since there are no other Panoramic Rangefinder cameras. I have seen other threads complaining about non RF pictures in the gallery and this would be "adding " to that issue.
