residue from duster...

Hi All

I have started to so some serious scannig.
I am using a compressed air (more on this in a second) spry, and on one neg, in the middle of the jet, I suddenly got a liquid or something.
worse, it left a residue on the film.
even worse, it was on the emulsion side.
much worse, I have tried to super gently wipe some Isopropyl alcohol over it...nada.
I now read that the gas in the duster is Butane - Propane 😱
I am now trying to soup it in distilled water + wetting agent (it's soap, right, so if the residue is oily...) and isopropyl alcohol...
What should I do?
How bad is that?
How hard should :bang: I :bang: hurt:bang: myself :bang: for :bang: my :bang: stupidity:bang: ?

I use that kind of spray as well when I'm scanning and never had a problem,
what I do is never tilt the can, I bend the plastic straw/pipe that sticks into the nozzle to point to the negatives/scanner.

Oh and never shake the can before use.

Ok, just for the future generations:
1 - the rinse did the trick
2 - I'll be very careful not to shake the can and to use the nozzle far from the film, so even in the case some liquid do go out, it will evaporate before reaching the film. Short strokes seem better than long ones too...

I've had good luck with PEC-12 followed with a rinse in distilled water for cleaning up any gunk on film. Worked wonders on my fathers slides that had a mold infestation.

Perhaps it is time to get a Giottos Rocket (or something similar). I find it powerful enough in terms of blowing, in fact when I'm blowing dust off the scanner glass, or off the negatives while on the scanner I find that blowing too hard just makes more dust fly around. A gentle targeted puff sometimes is all it takes.

If the film was color, you MUST destabilize it to prevent fading.
