It`s so easy to quickly form an opinion about a camera that doesn`t work the way it should. Especially since so few of them purchased have seen or will ever see servicing.
I was ready to throw in the towel on the Kievs but decided to try again.
After putting thru 4 rolls in my recently CLA`d Kiev 4A from Fedka I`m beginning to appreciate it and actually starting to like it.

When I find the bits I need to fettle mine, I find Kievs a very enjoyable camera to use. I may fit a non-metered top plate as I prefer the looks of these.

Good to see someone sticking with it, and giving the camera a chance 🙂

I'm glad you like it. Kiev is charming camera if it in good condition.

I have 2 Kievs on the way from Oleg. I can't wait to use them--it's like going back to the 1930's.
Anyone noticed that Oleg's domain okvintagecamera.com has expired? Someone knowing his address schould give him a hint.

We are strange people we are!
We think little of paying $65- $90 per hour for a car repair plus 50% profit margin on the parts but to get our delicate little cameras fixed we balk at the cost of CLA or minor repairs.
Considering that the cars we drive are reasonably new (costing thousands of $)but the vintage cameras (costing $20- $120) we use every day are expected to keep working flawlessly with little to no maintenance.

I agree with you. This is a real disgrace. We should stimulate a high end Kiev service, but we are doing the opposite.

Cheers,

I know the address I have is good as I have used it many times in the pass.
