Despite my disappointment at the failure if my RD-1 and having to send it back to Epson for a fixed price (£270 + VAT) repair, I just received it back from France in 9 days - which I think merits a big Thank You to Epson.
I'm impressed. They even repainted a missing bit of paint on the body.
(Mind you for that price they could have checked that it had been upgraded to "S" - however it did not take long to reinstall.)
Now I've got to use it a lot as it's got a 3 month warrenty and I want to make sure it works!

Are you sure they touched up that missing paint? My impression is that they've been known to swap hotshoes (where the serial number is) and send back a different body altogether. That could explain the reset of the firmware too.

Return of the RD-1?

Return of the RD-1?

Yep - I wondered 'bout that as I also had a Screen Protector over the LCD and it ain't there no more. Also I could not see ANY sign of the paint repair at all.
I'll read over some old posts about how to post images to this site.

I looked at my D200 the other day(which I still like) but was amazed at how complicated the marketing people have made cameras these days - it is a JOY to have my RD-1 back and to concenteate on making photos again. I still can't believe I read the manual in a few minutes from end to end!!!

I got a D300 this past week, and while going through the extensive menu options setting it up the way I like I was thinking I could do without 80% of the features. On the other hand, it's nice that they *give me* the option to set up the operation the way I like . I try to use my DSLRs simplified to R-D1 level (aperture priority, with the aperture chosen via the actual aperture ring, manual focus primes mostly... I do let it do its matrix metering thing however). Still, I'd love to have a Nikon F3HP-D or FM3-D, FX sensor please....
