My M5s need red dots!
Well, I still would rise above his level, but I didn't say anything about not making the guy grovel about the shots.
As for finding them... how? All the petrol station owner knows about Jon is that he wields a camera from time to time. And these photographs carry no identification visible about the location, time or anything else.
Still... Jon could talk to the owner one day saying something like "I heard about your misfortunes with a truck and your roof."
(please, notice the emoticon!!!)

My understanding of game theory is that a "tit for tat" strategy is most effective (in structured computer tournaments where avatars play with various strategies - see Richard Dawkins' book "The Selfish Gene"). You start out being nice, and if someone is a prick to you, you respond in kind. This works for me.
If someone is a jerk to you, and you are a jerk in return, you're still a jerk. If that does not bother you, hey, have fun.
Ultimately, the only person I have to please is myself. I don't like thinking of myself as a jerk, so I try (and do not always succeed) not to be one.
"He started it," should be carved on tombstones around the country as 'famous last words' of road rage drivers, drunken bar fighters, and others who felt that 'tit for tat' was the best way to live their lives - and that's how they lost them.

The thing is, life is not a computer game. If your response is being a prick in return, well then I guess that it makes you .... a prick.

...or you could call the local Building Department. The structure itself might not meet building code requirements as to clearance or rules requiring the posting of clearance. If so you could contact the trucking company, its attorney and/or insurance company.

I guess I must be misssing something. I can only see Mattox's postings in other people's quotes. Hmmm.
What is the "jerk" stuff all about? It's not like Claremont is waving his photos in front of the station owner and saying"I have something you need, but I won't give it to you"... or am I mistaken. He seems to simply be saying that he's not going to be proactive and get in the middle of someone else's grief. This isn't exactly the kind of situation whre the Good Samaritan Act should be invoked.

Yep revenge is a dish best served with mashed potatoes and gravy - to be lingered over like comfort food on a cold winters day with a nice glass of red wine and coffee a petite fors for after......... Muhahahaha............MUHAHAHAHAHH!
Opps sorry my Dr Evil side took over there for a moment.
I gotta admit though that there is something in situations like this in which it is very human to feel gratification when some ignorant d'head gets his cumuppance.
I dont know I would be advertising the fact that you have the photos - this "wally" could subpoena them!

I think that Schadenfreude brings about even badder Karma than just being a prick.
That said, if it had been me being pushed around then, and this situation now, I would ask for a pretty penny. I wouldn't be denying the photos: I'd be facilitating Humble Pie.

Poor art student
You mean a guy who just had thousands of dollars damage just done to his business was actually upset enough to have a go at someone taking a photo of it?
Unthinkable.
Yes, he probably was out of line having a go at you but honestly, have some perspective.

There was a six month gap between the OP taking photos of the gas station and getting abused, and the truck hitting the gas station. Gotta slow down a little when you read

How many is enough?
I'm already barfing from all the "take the high road" advice. The guy is a jackass and he shouldn't get a pass for touching the OP. How many of you would like to be harassed and touched while you were on public property? Hmmm.... not many of you, huh?
YOU are in control. If he wants the photos, make him pay handsomely for them. Insurance companies pay all the time for evidence that makes their case.

Pesphoto, I'm not an "evil genius", just one who knows his way around city hall and about building & zoning requirements. I was on the North Miami Planning Commision for 12 years and I think it's going on 7 years on the city's Board of Adjustment where we issue variances. http://bp2.blogger.com/_b7J54W1JOoc/R7eEWeewOHI/AAAAAAAAA28/_tfMHMkPlSw/s1600-h/4.jpg shows me on the left along with the city attorney, the head of building and zoning, and the deputy city clerk along with my toy monkey Monkette. Hey, you gotta keep a sense of humor, right? Considering that I only have three credit hours of college (with a 4.0 average)I'm not all that much more educated than the monkey.

"Tongue in cheek" defines my whole life these days. When a grown man, a senior citizen actually, wanders about town carrying a toy monkey and shoots pix with a 15mm lens that include himself what else could you call it? When I want to lambast some politicion on my blog (www.thepriceofsilver.blogspot.com) I have Monkette do the talking and I'm off the hook.
