Revolutionary improvements for the next M

Common, you have your MP so stick with it, we are talking about M7 :) always should be two film cameras, one for posers (MP) and one for photographers (M7) :D

Film window? Hilarious!!!

Leica's philosophy is simplicity after all. The more durable parts you can build, then better. Look how long are older cameras such as II, III going :)

To handle a leica M needs quite concentration also. So added another "comfortable" features might do the opposite effects for photographing skills.

I'm still baffled by the tripod mount resistance. I have a tiny desktop tripod (not Leica) and the whole thing topples over with the M attached. I have to massively extend one leg, make sure it's pointing under the body and the whole thing is *still* unstable. Basically, I never use it. I'm thinking a mini bean bag would be useful for when I want to rest the camera on a rock or something.

Is there simply no space in the camera above the centre of the baseplate?

It was definitely moved to the center on the M8. I checked it out to be sure. I'm still shocked at the lack of outrage and angst. Perhaps everyone is still too freaked because you can't put a roll of film in one.

I love my chrome MP pretty much just the way it is but I do like the idea of a variable magnification viewfinder... or... I'd settle for an accessory 20-135mm viewfinder just to be able to double check some shots.

Hi, dear friends. The first improvement are possible, as the spot metering. The others i think no, because are upsetting the traditional Leica M style. The centered tripod socket require the completely new back opening system, that work from 1967 (from the Leica M4) but are very similar to the back opening system of the Leica M3 and M2. I solved the problem with the M Grip: this stuff center the tripod socket and improve much better the camera holding.
The self timer require the completely new battery compartment with an M5 metering system or the meter elimination... If i need the self timer, i put away my MP and take up my M2 or M5.
Ciao.

What's wrong with the tripod socket?

Only that you had to tip the whole room over by 20-30 degrees so that it wouldn't fall over!

You see, there's this thing called centre-of-gravity. It's generally going to be somewhere near the middle of the camera (and further forwards, the heavier the lens becomes). NOT all the way over to the right.

For the camera to be stable, the CG has to be above the triangle formed by the points of contact of the tripod legs (the "triangle" being a projection onto a plane perpendicular to the gravity vector and "above" meaning that the vector of the force on the CG passes through this triangle.)

Having the tripod mount all the way over to one side means that you need to use a much larger and/or more massive (heavier) tripod than would otherwise be necessary (connecting the tripod to the camera moves the CG, of course :) ).

Hope that's all clear now :)

Colin, you need to get a grip.

Un Leica sur le trépied ? Mon dieu ! Quelle idée infantile ! Je fais le vent dans votre direction générale !

Bah!
