Having bought a Fed 2b on a fotograhic market 2 weeks ago at Doesburg (Holland) I have a question about the rewind knob.
Is it possible to lift the knob so you can rewind the film easely. I already have shot a film with it but the rewinding was quit hard, the knob is also worn on the top.
Having read a lot of internetpages about the russian cameras I can not discover if that is an option on this model. On my Zorki-4 it is possible, my Zorki-6 has a bigger knob.
I have seen the repairfoto's on this forum but that rewind knob is from a later type. It looks that it should be possible. My question is if somebody can confirm this before I pick up my tools.

Many thanks, Albert

Hi Albert,

Have a look at the FED2 service thread I posted at the top of this forum.

The FED2 rewind knob does lift for rewinding, you can see it in one of the images on the first page.

Hi Soviet RF Addict,

Thanks, I had seen this thread, but because the knob was not type b, I asked. I shall have to pick up my tools to ( gently ) release the knob because it is quite stuck.

Greetings Albert

I'll check for you when I get home from work. I have two different version of the FED2, and I can't properly remember how the rewind lever handles on either. I'll get back to you on this topic....

Do you mean the FED2 with the thumb lever winder like the FED5? (not normally referred to as type B, actually it is a type G) if so this late model rewind knob does not lift up.

When I joined up here I posted a pic of my snake skin covered FED2 (G) .... http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=681

Ah, I see... my FED2's have different advance knobs! The rewind knob on both FED's lift up and need to be twisted between thumb and forefinger. The knob should lift very easily. It lifts until the knob is juuuust over the camera's top.

BTW, it seems more and more members of RFF are from Holland, either as native or as ex-pat working/ living in Holland.

Can I be so bold as to say that after the North Americans the (semi-)Dutch are the largest nationality here? :)

Could be, I know there are a few Australians here as well but am unsure of numbers...It might be interesting to run a poll/thread to see where the number are. Or maybe one of the moderators can get the info from our profiles?

All going to plan I should be spending a week or so of my holidays in Amsterdam next May/June… Looking forward to that :)

Well, I'm Canadian, but descended from Dutch settlers who arrived in N.America in the 1620's. Does that count? :)

hey, there's only one moderator here and he doesn't have a quick way to get the info from the profiles, but maybe a poll...:)

DW, 17th century might be streching things a tat too far, I guess. :)

Laika, and everyone else coming to Holland one day, we could have a little afternoon get-together here in Amsterdam.

Hello Laika,

I managed to get the rewingknob loose. After some lubrication and cleaning fluids and some gentle work with two combinationpliers ( cloth in between ) I got it lifted. The screw underneath seems to be a little damaged so that was the reason it was stuck.
I have some foto's of the camera attached.

Thanks for all the advice,

greetings Albert
