So, I have tried to look through all relevant posts and have my R-D1 rwady and exposed for adjustment but...
I am lost! My R-D1 focus is slightly out (its focus is actually 2 inches or so further back than the RF tells me). But i can't work out which screw I should be turning! I am assuming that its the screw on the far left...is this right?
Any help is much appreciated!

Sorry, but you can't adjust for that. It's fixed in the RF assy.
edit: test with another lens just incase it's wear on the lens focus ring.

Thanks both of you for the speedy replies.
Didier, did you send your off to DAG? Is there nobody in Europe able to make these adjustments?

Gareth,
There might be someone but I don't know any. And DAG has a worldwide reputation in the rangefinder community. I guess he gets at least one R-D1 per week. His price for the adjustment is fair (probably fairer than from an european specialist), and an urgent EMS package to the USA doesn't cost me much more than to UK or France.
