Just found out this HKRF club. Good to see so many fellow RF users. I also
have the R-D1. plus the Hexar, M4, Canon P, etc. I am also disappointed by
the poor print jobs. I noticed that someone mentioned Tin Cheung at TST for
decent printing jobs. Some users also commented on the change of quality at
Colour Six, etc. I am seriously thinking of scanning the negatives and slides, and
perhaps, like Andrew, get a good Epson printer to do B&W from my Epson R-D1.

Any good suggestions, Andrew?

Hi Thomas,

I would highly recommend the Epson R-2400. The B&W prints came out neutral with great tonality without any fidgeting . I used to do black only printing with my Epson 895, and now placing the prints side by side, I could detect a slight magenta cast from the prints printed with black ink only.

Thanks for the recommendation. I was actually having the R1800 in mind, but if the R2400 is not that much more expensive, I may go for it. But I need to get a scanner first. You mentioned earlier that you did not do much scanning these days. So if you do colour, which lab in Hong Kong would you trust most (for developing and scanning the negatives or slides).

I mainly shoot digital with the Epson R-D1 these days and bypass scanning altogether. If you print B&W, R2400 is a lot better than R1800 because it utilizes 4 separate black ink cartridges- matte black, glossy black, light black and light light black. Unfortunately, I think R2400 is at least twice as expensive as R1800 :-(
