RFF Community Blog?

Mark - I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Like have a WP page that is still in the blog but has the feeds from other sites, as compared to being dumped into the main blog? I don't think the plugin I'm currently using allows that - it only goes into blog entires. But perhaps there is a different plugin I can try. Keep in mind that, even with, say, 30 blogs feeding into it, unless everyone posts every single day, there shoudln't be _that_ many new posts in that category per day . I don't think.
Fair enough - once all the other blogs have had their initial syndicaiton done (10 posts, or whatever's in their feed) then I guess it will become much simpler.

Okay. I've gone through a lot of blogs and have syndicated them into mine. Phew.

However, a lot of blogs don't have feeds at all. If you have a blog, please look into setting up a feed...

I think I figured out why most of the photos from my blog doesn't show though the community blog. Going to see if I can fix it this weekend.

Again, Allan thanks for putting this consolidated blog together. I just went back today and loved that in 10-15 minutes I could catch up with some of the best blogs from members here at RFF. Great work!

The link, for anyone wondering, is http://photos.kaiyen.com/rffBlog/ (make sure you bookmark it) 🙂

Haven't given my own kudos to Allan. I think it's great. Thanks for the work put into it!

I still haven't figured out how to create PDFs. Sounds like there's a free plug-in included in the new word processors. I'm stuck with Word 2000. 🙁

Just downlaod the free open office wrier and then save as a pdf. There are buttone to let you import picture, music and files.

OO works wonders also if you have to save an HTML from a Word or Excel document.

MS Office just generates so much #~@#dfgsdf! crap that you'll have a hard time even loading the resulting webpage with an HTML editor...

The ones from Open Office are just much cleaner and lighter. They solved my day yesterday 🙂

And now back to your regular scheduled program...

Hey all,
Just a reminder - if any of you want to post things to the blog other than the PDF book swap, you are welcome. That's the idea, anyway. If you have test shots that don't belong on your "presentation" style blog, use the community one. If you have an interesting article or write-up you want to live somewhere (even temp. until you make your own page), publish it there. Just go for it. If you need a new category created let me know.

I'm glad folks are finding it of use. Hopefully I won't 500 error it like I did with my own photo blog for a while there..

Allan,

How/when does the blog pickup and add other blogs? Is it on a periodic basis (every day, hour)? When something new gets posted?

🙂

There's a cron job that runs each morning at 12:01AM. I can have it run more often - it's not high-bandwidth so I can probably run it pretty often.

It's not tracking pings since not everyone has pings set up on their blogs.

As for entirely new blogs - I have to manually add those as I see them, mostly via people's sig files here on RFF.
