We are all amateurs when we participate here.
Occasionally I think some of the pros need to be reminded of that fact.
Internet forums are amateur places.

Amateur. Most working pros use DSLRs for their speed, versatility, ubiquity, and OEM/aftermarket support. I know that there are working pros that use RFs as well, but I think we would all agree that they are in the minority.

Also, I agree with Helen about us being zealot amateurs. The more niche a product, the more devoted the following...

Seems to be mostly hobbyists, but then a good number of professionals are here too. Maybe the pros are more "vocal"?

I think many people here are somewhere "in between". I occasionally shoot assignments for money and sell prints, but most of my work is personal, and I have a day job totally unrelated to photography.

Am I a amaturer or pro?

A third answer could be: both of them, but doesn't exist in the poll so I vote amateur.
Who loves photography and like sharing this passion with others is an amateur, also if pro.
Thanks to our pro friends who give us a lot of their time.

I prefer hobbyist..Although I have worked in the past professionally I still don't like the word professional..

My images now are for me..

Neither -- I am a slacker - I never developed a work ethic since missing career day in high school.
You had a career day? How very bourgeois...

Most professionals I know started out as amateurs. Most (not all) retained that enthusiasm. Why else would you bother? Except for a very few, photgraphers tend to trade income ("I coulda been a contender. I coulda been an accountant") for lifestyle.

I call myself a "paid amateur". Not well paid, but hey, consider the alternatives.

Cheers,

R.

+1

As said in another thread (now closed) the difference isn't between pro and amateur, or between amateur and hobbyist, but between really involved and amateurish.

I would respectfully disagree. I am a pro shooter (photojournalist) and the knowledge base here and at other forums is invaluable in my every day shooting, as well as in the work I do for myself. Plus, the sheer enjoyment I receive from looking at other people's work, whether pro, advanced amateur or beginner, is irreplaceable. I would hate to think forums such as this are limited to just amateurs.
