UK Region RFF Meet in London

Sounds good to me - I'll be there. I will be on the road after tomorrow, but will check here on Friday night in case anything's changed.

Looking forward to meeting whoever makes it!

Tom

Hey guys, I made it to England without incident, and have spent the day walking around Soho, Buckingham Palace, etc... I'm definitely in for Saturday, and can meet at London Bridge or any other location in the morning. My girlfriend is coming along, too! She's been bitten by the photo bug, for sure.

We don't know the city well, so anything will be exciting. Manolo, I'll send you a PM with my local phone # as soon as I get it, so we can make solid contact and have emergency contact info.

Now, a question for all you guys: Where's a good, reasonably priced processor? I stopped at Colorama here just off Oxford, only a corner from the hostel, but their prices seem pretty high. They're asking £6 for processing (E6 or B&W with prints) + £4 for a quick scanning, next day service. That works out to about $10,000,000 Canadian. 🙁

Any suggestions? I'm willing to walk a bit, or take a tube (I'll work it into one of our day trips). Also, I'm heading northwards to Newcastle and Edinburgh, so if you've got some suggestions for when I get there, much appreciated! 😉

I don't know if I could make it to take any pictures but I have a pub 10 minutes from Victoria Station (The Rising sun 44-46 Ebury Bridge Rd. SW1W 8pz) If you Identify yourself as a RFF member(s) I'll buy you a pint (or two). If you want to finish your tour here you're very welcome

Welcome to England!

Hey everyone, do you mean London Bridge tube/rail station at 10am?

I might just be able to do this one, I will probably be on my bike and shopping for groceries at Borough Market.

You know that Jo and I are in!

For the rest of you: Jo and I met with Manolo today in Camden Town, where he showed us to a neighbourhood restaurant with pie & mash, or if you liked, pie, mash, and eels! I skipped on the eels; I've had unagi sushi, and it's only so-so... Afterwards, we went to The Constitution where he very kindly bought us both a pint of IPA. Thanks again, Manolo!

We're looking forward to tomorrow morning. We're going to ride a city bus for the first time (hopefully, it'll be a double-decker!) and then do the shoot with Manolo, Vincent, and whomever else who arrives.

Cheers,
BJ

Oh, forgot to mention two thing:

1) Manolo is a nice guy, and we were pleased to meet him. Another good experience meeting an RFF member. This is a great community to be a member of.

2) The rear group of my Nokton 50 came unscrewed today. I was changing lenses in Regent Park and when I looked down, there was a little surprise sitting nicely on the shutter blades. Thank God I changed lenses with the camera laying flat on top of my camera bag, or I'd have little pieces of lens all over the place! 😱 Now, I wonder how many messed up pictures I've taken with the rear group partially unscrewed... 🙁

Laters,
BJ

I'll be there, see you tomorrow.

I've got an appointment at 11am so not able to make the meet. But I am heading to the South Bank afterwards so I'll be on the look out for a small group pointing range finders...or perhaps I'll find you guys in one of the many pubs along the river!

Hope you had a great day...in case I don't find you!

I hope you guys all realize what a nice bloke ManGo is. The 'ammers are playing away at Fulham today and he's missing the match...

Wouldn't catch me doing that! 😉

Well, we had a very good time indeed! Jo and I met Manolo and Vincent, and Tom met up with us later. Had a great trip around the Borough Market, across the river, down to the Millenium Bridge, then back across the water to the south bank, where there were tons of people and exciting things going on.

I did a ton of street photo, which is rare for me, but had a great time. Eventually, the pictures will show up here or on my website, but for now, you'll just have to imagine that they're great! 😉

Thanks very much to Manolo for being a great host, for giving me a spare set of batteries after BOTH sets of batteries went dead! He also lent me his 35 Color-Skopar for about two hours, which was a pleasure to use. I've never had - or used - a 35 before, and it was fun! I think if I were to get a 35 some day, it'd have to be an Ultron, though. I'd want the speed, and I'm not terribly fond of the handling of the tiny barrel (which is shared with the 21 and 25).

Anyways, guys, it was great! Best of luck, and Tom, enjoy your new wrist strap.

RFF rules! Got to meet very nice people, had a great day out taking pictures in glorious weather. A very special day for me since I got to use quite different pieces of gear for the first time ever: Tom's M6 and 50 Summicron (put a roll of Tri-X through it, can't wait to develop the negs tomorrow), and... a couple of point-and-shoot digicams that were kindly handed to me by some tourists wanting to have a picture of themselves for the folks back home ... "Wait, do I just have to press this button?" "Yeah, just snap it!" There's a photo of me handling one of these things in Jo's gallery, you can see me desperately looking for the focussing tab with my left hand. 😛
Anyway, it was fun.
Cheers
Vincent

Ditto all the others have said (although I didn't touch anyone's digicam!); a great day out. I had to get up at six this morning to get here (nearly) in time but it was well worth it.

It was great to spend the day with people who were taking as long to get from A to B as I was and taking just as many pictures in between. Well nearly, anyway... 🙂

I'm sorry I won't be around in York this week to do it again, but I will be in Sofia, so it's not all bad. I just hope I don't run out of film; I put quite a dent in my supply today...

Thanks all; see you next time,

Tom

I'm SO sorry I didn't make this one. I didn't make it to Borough Market in the end... sorry guys, it has been a long week at work. 🙁 Glad to see everyone had a great time though. How was the food in Chinatown?

Just curious, is that carousel somewhere on the South Bank? I'd really like to go and take a picture of that. Whereabouts is it exactly, near the RFH?
