OK, we have lots of toys, flat bed scanners among them.

Which flat bed scanners give the best results for photos and negs ?

Yes, I know dedicated film scanners will give the best film results,

but which flat bed scanners are best for photogs and negs ?

why? weak points vs strong points ?

Stephen

CanonScan 9000F. It's not quite up to the Epson V700, but it's very close, and substantially cheaper.
A BetterScanning kit helps a lot too.

Epson V700 ... had mine for a while now and while it's a bit limited for 135 I can't really fault it.

I don't have a Flatbed ( At least not yet 😱)

I bought a Plustek 7600i from Tim Barker here @RFf a few yrs ago
And simply Adore its Ease of Use & am Quite Pleased with the Results

However I am thinking about a flatbed so I can Shoot MF
B&H Has the Epson V600 for $195.00 ... I know Erik van Straten uses this and his Work looks Stellar

If I buy this scanner i will buy a Bronica S2 with that oh sooo Lovely nikkor 75mm

I have the Plustek 7600i, it's served me well for a couple of years now.

Helen, like someone else mentioned the Canoscan 9000f is a great introductory scanner for medium format. I see it listed on Amazon right now for $240, which is NOT what I paid about 5 months ago. I paid $139 which made it a steal in my opinion.

edit: I see now that there's a Mark II version of the 9000f. I must have bought the 1st version which made it cheaper.

I have the Epson V700 also, because....
My Dads Photo Archive consists of 4x5/3.25x2.25/2x2, and few oddball sized negatives (+ 35mm slides), plus all different print sizes from 2x3 to 8x10.

the results are more than enough for my needs. I get very sharp scans from all of them.

BTW I curently own both of these scanners would have loved for the V600 to be designed to scan 4x5 as that way I wouldn't of had to buy the V700 🙂

I use an Epson 4990, which was the model before the v700. It is excellent for 120 and 4x5, and can be found for a lot less than the v700.

Hi Helen,

If I cannot get my V700 fixed, I will try to get a V600.

I have a V600 for my 6x6 negs and slides. I use it to scans my polaroid as well. Very satisfied of it. I know that V700/750 have better specs but because I do not print larger than a3+ the results of the v600 is more than ok. I have a Coolscan ed 5000 to scan 35mm.

V700 for me. In Margus' excellent drum scanning thread, he has a comparison of the V700 to a drum scan, and it's far, far closer than you'd have any right to expect for the money.

For medium format and up, I think the quality is good enough for 99.9% of us. The 9000f too probably.
