Is Ricoh GR Digital 2 coming out soon? Does anyone have any news on it's release and specifications?

I have never heard of such an announcement. With a larger sensor would be cool.
Sigma announced a similar camera (DP-1) about a year ago but the Sigma distributor of my country (Switzerland) has absolutely no knowledge about a possible release date. And we often get the first shipments from Japan, here, before the rest of Europe.

and just for the record
The D200 was also deemed a non-restock close to when the D300 was announced
so take it for what its worth

My partner has just been in Japan and tried to pick up the GR Digital and was told it's no longer in production. I don't how true this was, or whether it was just a sales target.

The Ricoh GX100 replaces the GR Digital.
BTW - The GX100 is a fantastic camera!

I was also wondering why DPreview haven't given favorable reviews to both Ricoh GR Digital and GX 100. Almost everywhere else on numerous forums, everyone is raving about how great these cameras are...

I think that the slight shortfall in the dpreview review is that they tend to work to a checklist against which they tick boxes to come up with a rating. But the GX100, which I have and love with a CV 25mm finder on top, has qualities you can't measure. It's like comparing a Leica M7 to a Nikon F6; the F6 would tick a lot of boxes, but that M7 just has a certain je'ne sais quoi!

GX didn't replace GR
The GX100 replaced the GX8, its a different line with a similar body style ... but I agree there very good

The GRD lens is as good as the old film series lenses were, world class IMHO.
My fingers are crossed for a MK II perhaps with a less protruding lens.

In theory it did not, but if the GR D did not sell well enough Ricoh may have decided to drop the GR line entirely. The Caplio GX100 offers very similar qualities as the GR D and has a zoom, so it would be rather superfluous to provide a new prime lens compact with the same features, or at the very least it should be significantly cheaper.IGMeanwell said:GX didn't replace GR
Of course if they could give the GRD 2 a bigger sensor, it might make sense, but manufacturers of larger than 1/1.72" but smaller than 4/3" sensors are rather scarce nowadays. There has been virtually no new digital cameras in that class since 2004 and sensor manufacturers have dropped them. A 4/3" sensor would of course be even nicer, but I doubt Ricoh would go that far. The price of the sensor and glass would make the price of the camera too high, since Ricoh can not rely on volumes to make profit and needs large margins.

From what I have read Didier, there have been a lot of technical problems yet to be sorted out with this camera.

I played with a few GRD's in the last few months....I really liked the old GR1V, so today I went and got a GRD new version or not coming. I paid 427 dollars and got a 2 gig card thrown in, all new of course, the person was ecstatic to get rid of it, he had it in storage for a while...

Wish he had another! That's a great price for a great camera!
