Ricoh GR Repair

Hello everyone. With great sadness, I must send my beloved GR off to CrisCam for repair. I'm hoping the camera is salvageable as it was stepped on while taking a long exposure, effectively crushing the lens back into the body forcefully. The camera still powers on and seems to function in every other way normally; I'm able to view images on the screen without issue, change menu settings, etc.

I'm feeling very stifled without my GR and would love to get it back as quickly as possible- hopefully without breaking the bank. I've not had any experience with CrisCam, so I guess the main objective of this post is to hear of any others' experiences going through them. Thoughts?

I sent my GRD4 to CrisCam when a sneeze flung it (lens extended) into sand, erk. I paid what I'd spent on it--which though not full retail, was not cheap--but it came back to me renewed. I expect you'll regret the cash outlay but feel grateful in all other respects when it comes home.

Mine now never leaves the wrist strap except to travel in a pack. My sneeze would not have been so costly if I'd practiced that consistently back then.

I'm thinking about sending mine back to Ricoh to get the sensor cleaned and fix a sticky shutter button. When I went to Ricoh's website it directed me to Precision Repair as the authorized Ricoh repair shop. They quoted me a flat rate of $160. Could you try sending it (or calling ahead of time) to Precision and see what they say?

My first GRD suffered a similar fate. Though I had the wrist strap fixed around my wrist, a friendly arm knocked it free and send it flying, flying, flying. I'm having an awful time getting on with the CrisCam website.

I just checked out the Precision Repair site and off the bat seems much more user friendly that the aforementioned CrisCam. I'm going to give them both a call and see what they think, but thank you for providing me with another option.

Precision Camera is the new authorized repair center. I sent a Ricoh GR for a sensor cleaning about a month and a half ago. Repair has been "on hold, waiting for parts" pretty much since they received the camera. Not sure what parts are needed for a sensor cleaning, unless they need to replace something that was causing the dust in the first place.

May I ask, did they quote a price for the sensor cleaning? I have a slight dust-on-sensor problem that should be resolved at some point..... thanks....

It's being done under warranty. The dust spot showed up pretty quickly.

As noted before, CRIS isn't the repair facility for Ricoh / Pentax products anymore. That lovely job has shifted to Precision camera. They'll most likely need a few moths to get their technicians trained, get parts, and work through the backlog of repairs. The switch took place August 1st and any outstanding repairs at CRIS had to be sent to Precision.
