Ricoh GR1S focusing problem

but does anyone here own a GR1s find it very easy to get out of focus pictures?

I've owned a GR1 and had no problems with the auto-focus. Are you using it in P mode or aperture priority mode? Perhaps you're setting the aperture too high so that the camera is selecting a very slow shutter speed resulting in blurred pics due to camera movement?

but it was not a blurry picture
it was out of focus obvious.
anyone else share your thought?

It could be as with any P&S: finger on AF window, messy AF window and things like that. Do you use "focus and recompose" method?

Or it could be that the AF is incorectly calibrated, or maybe the AF spot is not in the centre, but somehow mis-aligned...

I don't own a Ricoh, I'm just guessing what might be wrong with a P&S 🙄

Allan i have a GR1s and never had this particular problem but did have focus problems with the Leica Minilux usually when shooting in poor light?

OT slightly are GR1s repairable? mine has developed a fault where firstly the flash wouldn't fire and then although the shutter seems to fire and the film winds on nothing is exposed even when flash is turned off? So now it's totally useless!

I have the GR1s and I have had the same problem. I have read about it in several reviews too. I think the passive AF needs more contrast than active AF that is common in most p&s. It got better when I started to check if the AF really had locked on to something before I pressed the shutter. I recognized that the focus indicators were blinking (=not finding a focus point) often so now I allways search for some vertical shape or line to aim at, slightly press the shutter so that the AF lock on to that, recompose and take the picture (just like a rangefinder...). The method is slower but makes You aware of what will be in focus. It is a great camera when you master the focus issue, good luck!

thanks guys for valuable comments.
what i experienced was, I was pointing and trying to focus on something "close up" but it gave me a "far" distance reading.. or vice versa etc. I already used the "center" of the viewfinder as focusing point.
but anyway, I'll try to play around with it a bit more and try to have it checked (or fixed) if it persists.
