Ricoh GRD Banding

So I just bought an original GR Digital (8mp) and I'm getting quite a bit of banding on the shadows at 1600 unless the exposure is just right (like zero latitude at all). How much of this is normal on this camera, or did I get a bad one?

Did you check DPR? Their review has a sample at 1600. I don't think it's that surprising for a compact camera from 2006.

That sample doesn't tell me much as it is not a very shadowy scene (where the good stuff often is). I've looked at hundreds of finished shots online of dramatically lit high iso scenes with nice shadows, so I'm not sure if those users are losing other shots due to this issue, or if it is just my camera.

If you can share a sample photo to show what kind of banding you're referring to, I can do test shots with my GRD (GRD 1) to compare.

On the GRDIV I used to see banding on the live screen but it never appeared on the photograph. I haven't noticed anything like this on the GRD1 or GRD2 for that matter.
