That's good!
My upgrade from 2 to 3 should be cheaper now.

Yup this makes sense seeing how the price of the grdIII has dropped so much. Currently available for 499aud in aus...
So whats new? I can see higher res screen, ND filter and sensor based IS.... Doesn't really seem like much of an upgrade?

I have owned 3 GR-D (v.1) and 1 GR-D (v.3). Maybe this one will finally cure my lust.

The concensus seems to be that this is real, but for me, it's not enough to warrant another unless it is much improved in image quality and operation speed. The GRD III suits me just fine for what it is, and little things like OIS aren't necessary for me. The next one should be the big upgrade, if the history of the GRD's is anything to go by.

Seems that we haven't got much technology breakthrough on the 1.7'' sensors.
With the ND filter and in-body IS they have done every tweak to the interface they could. In fact I wasn't even expecting for this..
Anyway, this announcement is just so very Ricoh, concerning the stream of five CX cameras released in recent years that are basically the same thing...

Sign me up for an aps-c or similar grd V with a 28mm f2.8 equiv and optical VF - a digital gr1v!
In the meantime I'm interested to see what they've done with the IQ from the III to the 4. Sensor stabilization means that you can get away with lower ISOs - not a bad idea at all.

What viewfinder is that in the photo?

Looks like an external clip on finder.

Assuming this image comparison is real, can anyone guess what the extra "stuff" above and to the left of the lens?

EDIT: Also, the lens on the supposed new GRDIV has "VC" on it.

Looks like the AF window from my grd I - if so it'll mean the new GRD has 2 different types of AF working together like the GRDI

Enjoy Life.
Thy will be nice I they go back to active & passive autofocus. Should be a nice camera, like the ND filter.

Built-in ND filters are nice to have. I love having one on my X100.

Darkroom printing lives
Ricoh makes exciting cameras, I wish they would join the 4/3rd manufacturers.
I hope my GR-1s will stay operational until there's a true digital replacement for it. I can probably live with APS sized sensor, heck, even a GR-D with m4/3rd sensor will do.

They would have me with a 35mm equivalent focal length. 28, for me, is too wide for day-to-day use.

I too wish they came out with a slightly longer focal length. What are the odds that they'll come out with a tele-adapter similar to GRD1/2? They never came out with one for the GRD3 (guessing technical challenges due to wide aperture).

Ah, thanks Donald!
Looks like it does the bit where it will under-expose pixels for "extended dynamic range", Phase AF!
Interesting.... I have the A12 28 f/2.5.... but I still would like to have one of these.
If they can add Phase AF to the GXR series, we'll be in for a world of fun.

Hi Kevin, yes a nice mini-me for when the GXR is too big.
I'm a sucker for these little cameras GRD,GRDII and GRDIII over the years, each time just a little better.
My GXR is impatiently awaiting the A12-M mount - so I'm not rushing to upgrade the GRDIII.
