As I have always said about the GR series, you get the smallest APSC body with a great lens (not good, but great) for the price. What other new camera competes in that range with those two attributes even at the new price? Thankfully, I´m not into the GR range anymore (again). $1500 was completely predictable when Ricoh itself said they could not make a new camera for the same price as the GR III. This is just the beginning. Every single new camera release will be more expensive than we are used to and not only in the USA... everywhere in the world. Now we see why Fuji priced the X-Half at $850.

I am really hoping for a monochrome version now that we know it's using the K-3 III sensor. But even the RGB GRIVx would be nice as they added grain to color profiles as well!

I have the feeling that I am going to end up with a collection of these 😛

Is there some evidence or a definitive statement about the sensor? Can you post a link/links? That YouTube video says the sensor from the K-3 iii or the Sony a6700. They are not the same sensor.

D@mn it, I read the website, watched the videos, and looked at the Moriyama photos in the gallery on Ricoh Japan's website and now I want one again, even though I still think the price is absurd.

Hilariously despite the $120 price tag, it does not come with TTL. Supposedly it works in the "flashmatic" way, that the flash always fires at full power, whilst the camera adjusts the ISO (and maybe aperture) to accommodate the exposure.

Now if this is the case, they can theoretically have the cameras support any manual flash with the scheme. But why would they?

The GRiii and iiiX were just under $1000US, when I bought mine a few years ago, and the prices held steady for years with little change. Now the iii is discontinued (not available on B&H website) and the iiiX and Urban Edition are around $1100, and the new GRIV is $1500! I wish I’d been paying attention to prices for the last year, but my suspicion is the GR line only went up recently. Could it be “tariffs” by the current US administration, or more likely “tariff-flation” where manufacturers take advantage of the price turmoil? Hmm…

I considered preordering but decided to wait. My GR III thumb wheel is jumpy and causes wild scrolling sometimes, but otherwise I really don’t see features that would have much impact on my photography.

Japan has a 15% tariff to the US, so maybe all or some of that will be passed along. But I don’t see much in the release itself to justify a significant price increase.

Ed.: just saw the $1500 price tag. I paid $939 for my GR III, so that’s quite a jump. Like 60%!

As I recall, the GRIII was $900 when it came out in 2019 and the GRIIIx was $1,000 when it came out in 2021. They have been hard to find in stock for the last 2–3 years, particularly since the HDF versions came out a year or so ago. I think the HDF versions have been more available over the past year, at prices of around $1,050–$1,100.

Glad it’s arrived. May ask my local shop to hold one for me when they get stock. My GR iii is off to China with my daughter shortly.

I’d like a iv x too - seems certain that will land in due course.

Looks good. The GR IIIx also still looks good.
But I have this class of camera covered already, so I'm not really a customer for one at present.

More than any other camera I can think of, GR is made for nitpicky users by nitpicky users 😛. I had the first APS-C GR and thought it was already well thought-out, even obsessively so. Nothing about it seemed like an afterthought. This latest iteration sounds like a logical product refresh, mandated by components for the older models being discontinued. As for the price, just wait for Godot a USA-made alternative.

It was a disturbingly fast 11 years ago (!) that I bought my Ricoh GR from America when prices and the Australian dollar were good. I think it was about $500 AUD, an incredible bargain compared with $2000 today.
